  • Patent number: 5930276
Abstract: The present invention provides a method (600) and device (200,500) for providing temperature-stable optical feedback for optical packages. The device includes an optical emitter (202,502), a first partially reflective optical element (204, 504), a second partially reflective optical element (206,506), a first optical sensing unit (208,508), a second optical sensing unit (210,510), and a feedback unit (212). The optical emitter (202,502) is responsive to an electrical input current and generates a beam of light (214). The first optical sensing unit (208,508) and the second optical sensing unit (210,510) receive diffracted portions of the beam of light (214) from the first partially reflective optical element (204, 504) and the second partially reflective optical element (206,506) respectively and generate a first feedback signal E1 and a second feedback signal E2.

  • Patent number: 5504834
Abstract: A method for pitch epoch synchronous encoding of speech signals. The method includes steps of providing an input speech signal, processing the input speech signal to characterize qualities including linear predictive coding coefficients and voicing, and characterizing excitation corresponding to the input speech signals using frequency domain techniques when input speech signals comprise voiced speech to provide an excitation function. The method also includes steps of characterizing the input speech signals using time domain techniques when the input speech signals comprise unvoiced speech to provide an excitation function and encoding the excitation function to provide a digital output signal representing the input speech signal.

  • Patent number: 4514703
Abstract: An automatic level control system is described for use with a voice processor which generates an AGC control signal to vary the gain applied to an audio input signal. The system includes a dynamically adjusting peak detector for detecting noise peaks and voice peaks while ignoring voice lulls which occur after a voice peak. Detected peaks are processed by an improved voice/noise sensor which develops a first output signal when voice is detected and a second output signal in the absence of detected voice. These output signals are received by a gain control circuit which is adapted to prevent the AGC control signal from increasing system gain for an indefinite interval in response to the second signal, and to permit normal variation in the AGC control signal in response to the first signal.
