Abstract: An umbilical is flushed with a fluid to wash out any permeants in the interstices within the umbilical core. A housing may be installed on an open end of the core with the flushing fluid introduced therein, the core elements passing through the housing. In a free-flooding umbilical installation, the flushing fluid may be gravity drained from the top of the umbilical. In other installations, the flushing fluid may be introduced under pressure. Bactericides and other active agents may be added to the flushing fluid, as desired. The flushing fluid is released from the opposite end of the core and may be captured for disposal, recycled, or released into the environment.

Abstract: An improved hose bundle which has a central core, at least one layer of flexible hoses or conduits around the core, and an external sheath, and includes an intermediate sleeve member of predetermined thickness disposed between the core and the first layer of hoses or conduits to provide the hoses or conduits with a substantially cylindrical outer shape without using fillers or leaving spaces between the hoses or conduits.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a non-tensioned multi-conduit line from a plurality of conduits and a central core as the plurality of conduits and central core are pulled longitudinally along the length thereof including the securing of conduits in a non-twisted contacting condition about the central core and oscillating the conduits about the central core prior to securing to alternately rotate the conduits in opposite directions about the central core such that the conduits contact the central core for substantially 360.degree. in each direction without introducing torsional stresses on the conduits prior to the securing thereof to the central core.
