Patent number: 8885540Abstract: A telecommunications system for communicating data to and from a mobile device. The system comprises a plurality of repeater nodes disposed to form a network. Each repeater, node has a transceiver unit operable to transmit the data with a first transmission power to one or more other of the repeater nodes within one of a plurality of slots of a time frame. Each repeater node is allocated a time slot, and the mobile device is arranged to transmit and receive data to and from the repeater nodes in the network. Each of the repeater nodes is operable to transmit a pilot signal during the same one of the time slots of the time frame with a second transmission power, the second power being less than the first transmission power. The pilot signal includes an identifier of the repeater node which is transmitted with the pilot signal and the mobile device is operable to receive one of the pilot signals.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2007Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: Multitone Electronics PLCInventors: Robert Robertson, Andrew Lewis

Patent number: 8542806Abstract: A telecommunications system including, a plurality of repeater nodes, each repeater node having a transceiver unit operable to transmit and receive data to or from one or more other of the repeater nodes or a control node or a mobile device within a predetermined range. The control node operable to transmit data to and receive data from the mobile device via the repeater nodes using a time frame divided into a plurality of time slots. The time slots of the time frame are allocated to the repeater nodes to the effect that each repeater node transmits to another repeater node in one of the upstream or the downstream directions in a time slot which is a minimal time from the time slot in which the other repeater node transmits in the upstream or downstream direction.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2008Date of Patent: September 24, 2013Assignee: Multitone Electronics PLCInventors: Robert Robertson, Andrew Lewis

Patent number: 4921467Abstract: A local oscillator for a radio receiver includes a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), a decoder and controller for providing a control voltage to the VCO, an error detector circuit for detecting an error in the frequency of the VCO on the basis of a received signal processed with the oscillating signal from the VCO, a temperature probe and a memory. The local oscillator is initially set up during manufacture by detecting any errors in the frequency at selected temperatures, and storing data in the memory indicative of the control voltage required to compensate for the frequency error for each temperature. In operation the decoder and controller applies the appropriate control voltage to the VCO on the basis of the data stored in the memory relative to the temperature detected by the temperature probe.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1988Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Assignee: Multitone Electronics PLCInventor: Alexander P. Patent number: 4663623Abstract: In a decoder suitable for use in a paging receiver of the type responsive to a transmission which includes a preamble sequence followed by batches each containing a synchronization word followed by a plurality of address and/or message words, the decoder is operative to detect a single synchronization word. Thereafter, the decoder is powered up to search in its specific frame in each batch by means of a clock which has been synchronized with the transmission and which provides the timing for searching in the specific frame of all subsequent batches. The clock may have coarse and fine modes of timing control, the coarse mode being applicable when initial bit synchronization is being attained, and the fine mode being applied subsequently to reduce the risk of the clock drifting out of synchronization.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1984Date of Patent: May 5, 1987Assignee: Multitone Electronics plcInventors: Alexander P. Patent number: 4580101Abstract: An FM demodulator includes frequency conversion means (20) to derive from an FM input signal (10) a pair of like signals that are mutually phase-displaced by 90.degree.. Such signals are filtered (26,28), squared (30,32) and sampled (38). The output signal (40) of the sampling means (38) is used to control (62) the local oscillator (16) of the frequency conversion means (20). In one arrangement, the magnitude of the control applied to the oscillator (16) is dependent on the frequency of one of the squared (30) signals, whereas the direction is dependent on the logic state of the output signal (40). A similar control method can be applied to a superheterodyne receiver.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1984Date of Patent: April 1, 1986Assignee: Multitone Electronics PLCInventor: Alexander P. Lax
