  • Patent number: 5261652
Abstract: A sheet feed device for use in a sheet counter arranged to separate stacked sheets one by one and to count the number of sheets. The sheet feed device has a feed roller having on its circumference a roller surface including a friction surface and a non-friction surface and a feed shaft, and at least one sheet separating member having a separation surface disposed so as to face the roller surface. Stacked sheets are separated one by one by the cooperation of the feed roller and the sheet separating member. The roller surface of the feed roller is formed so as to have a concave circular-arc sectional shape, and the separation surface of the sheet separating member is formed so as to have a convex circular-arc sectional shape. A gap is formed uniformly between the circular-arc surfaces formed in the roller surface and the separation surface, and the sheet separating member is disposed so that the uniform gap has a certain length along the circumferential direction of the feed roller.

  • Patent number: 4817804
Abstract: An apparatus adapted for counting the number of and half-wrapping banknotes and adapted to be capable of discriminating the banknotes of different nominal values, is disclosed. The apparatus is so constructed that a sensing or discriminating unit is provided in the transport route for the banknotes extracted by the separating drum for sensing or dicriminating the nominal values, authenticity and transport state of the notes, the banknotes after passing through the sensing and discriminating unit are transported by a changeover shutter plate in occasionally selected one of two preset directions, in such a manner that reject notes are accommodated in the reject note stacker and only the desired notes are accommodated in the stack unit for subsequent half-wrapping.

  • Patent number: 4583726
Abstract: A sheet transfer apparatus is for a sheet counting apparatus in which paper sheets stored in a hopper in a stacked state are fed by a payout roll from the hopper to a stacker at the downstream side of the payout roll. A guide assembly is disposed opposite to the periphery of the payout roll and is adapted to separately guide the paper sheets from the hopper toward the stacker in cooperation with the payout roll. According to the invention, the guide assembly, which has a frame member carrying a separating roll, a pinch roll and a guide plate, is pivotally mounted so as to be movable between a closed position in which it is close to the periphery of the feed-out roll and an opened position in which it is farther away from such roll. The position of the frame member is controlled by a pivotable opening/closing device engageable with the frame member for selectively holding the frame member in the closed position or the opened position.

  • Patent number: 4578770
Abstract: In a method of discriminating a sheet of the present invention, a comparison and discrimination value becoming the reference of the comparison and discrimination of a printing pattern data is updated whenever the preceding sheet passes through a photodetector. Accordingly, the comparison and discrimination of the following sheet is performed based on the updated comparison and discrimination value, and is not affected by the variation in the sensitivity of the photodetector.

  • Patent number: 4573674
Abstract: Apparatus for counting the number of paper sheets has a pair of feed-out, or delivery, auxiliary rolls rotatably mounted at the bottom of a hopper for advancing paper sheets stacked in the hopper towards a payout rolls mounted adjacent the hopper outlet. Each auxiliary delivery roll has a frictional surface forming a portion of the roll periphery and a relatively slippery surface forming the remainder of the roll periphery. The frictional surface has a recessed peripheral zone, all points of which are spaced from the center of the roll by a distance less than that by which the periphery of a slippery surface, forming the remaining portion of the roll periphery, is spaced from the center of the roll. The paper sheets stacked in the hopper are moved vertically by the auxiliary rolls and advanced towards the payout roll with a larger force of friction by being contacted over a wider area by the frictional surface.

  • Patent number: 4566244
Abstract: A paper sheet grip and transport apparatus for a counting and half-wrapping device comprising a stacker for accommodating a batch of paper sheets supplied thereto and for receiving them in the state of a bundle and a half wrapper for the bundle of paper sheets mounted adjacent to said stack unit, is disclosed. According to the present invention, the grip and transfer apparatus has a movable member mounted in alignment with said stack unit and said half-wrapping unit and having a transfer chuck adapted for being opened or closed and capable of gripping from the side of the half-wrapping unit a bundle of paper sheets placed in the stack unit. The movable member is driven from the side of said half-wrapping unit for transporting a bundle of paper sheets gripped by said transfer chuck from the stack unit towards the half-wrapping unit.

  • Patent number: 4560154
Abstract: In apparatus for counting the number of the paper sheets in which paper sheets are fed-out from the inside of the hopper by a feed-out roll assembly and are extracted from the feed-out roll assembly by extracting rolls operating at a speed faster than the speed of the feed-out assembly, the feed-out roll assembly comprises a pair of first payout rolls having a frictional surface and a slippery surface on their peripheries and a second payout roll intermediate the first payout rolls which has a frictional surface on its entire periphery. The rolls are mounted on a driving shaft, and at least the second payout roll is connected to the driving shaft through an overrunning clutch. When the trailing end of the paper sheet being removed from the hopper is in contact with the slippery surfaces of the first payout rolls, the sheet is extracted by the extracting rolls at a constant speed equal to the speed of the extracting rolls and thus, without being affected by the peripheral speed of the feed-out roll assembly.

  • Patent number: 4557597
Abstract: Described is a method of discriminating between front and back sides of the paper sheet bearing different printed design on the front and back sides, the printed design being in dissymmetry both in the up and down direction and in the left and right direction. The amount of light transmitted through plural portions of the paper sheet is sensed for deriving pattern signals indicative of changes in the amount of transmitted light, said pattern signals being then compared to reference pattern signals stored in advance to permit discrimination between the upper and lower edges and between the front and back sides of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 4556212
Abstract: The stacker for a paper sheet counting apparatus of the present invention has a rotatable drum and a plurality of rigid, substantially L-shaped blade members mounted on and around the drum periphery in equally spaced apart relation to one another. Each blade member has one end mounted for limited, free pivotal movement on the drum and its other and extending in a direction opposite to the intended rotational direction of the drum, the pivotal movement of each blade being responsive to rotation of the drum in such manner that the radius of rotation of said radial distance of projection of its other end away from the drum periphery is increased and decreased during rotation of the drum.

  • Patent number: 4514856
Abstract: An apparatus for counting the number of paper sheets is described in which a target number entered by an entry unit is stored in a target number memory and displayed in a target number display section, the count number supplied from a sensor and counter section since the time of start of counting is displayed in a count number display section and compared to said target number, and the counting number is discontinued in case of coincidence between said count number and the target number. According to the invention, the entry section has a batch key, a plus key and a minus key. A gross or an approximate number is entered by the batch key and incremented or decremented by the plus or minus key for adjustment of the gross number to the desired number. When the gross number is the infinite number, a continuous counting operation is performed until depletion of the paper sheets.
