Abstract: A tearable foil for closing a package comprises a plurality of layers laminated together, including at least an oxygen barrier layer and a cover layer. A tear line penetrates at least partially through the cover layer to define a tear strip extending from a pull tab to a tail, wherein the pull tab comprises lateral wings that are delaminated with respect to the remainder of the foil, on either side of a central region that is laminated to the remainder of the foil. A user may fold the lateral wings together at right angles to a plane of the foil and grip them to exert a force on the central region and thus commence tearing of the tear strip.

Abstract: A collapsible bottle for enteral feed has a thin-walled body extending axially from a base to a neck and having a front, a back and two sides that define a width dimension of the bottle. The body has a shoulder region adjacent to the neck, a hip region adjacent to the base and a waist region therebetween and the circumference of the bottle in the waist region is less than the circumference of the bottle in both the hip region and the shoulder region. The bottle is provided with hinge columns that extend between the hip region and the shoulder region at the sides of the bottle. The hinge columns provide the wall of the body with a region of increased stiffness in the axial direction while facilitating bending of the wall about the hinge column.

Abstract: The present invention relates to food compositions comprising nutritional composition for use in the treatment or nutritional management of phenylketonuria or hyperphenylalaninemia or for preserving or improving brain function in PKU or hyperphenylalaninemia. The composition comprises a specific protein source, long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids and at least one of uridine or cytidine.
Abstract: A package for a powdered nutritional product comprises a container for receiving the nutritional product, having a base and a peripheral wall. A lid assembly comprises a circumferential rim, defining an access opening, for connection to the container and a lid, pivotably attached to the rim by at least one hinge having a hinge axis. The lid has an open position and a closed position in which it closes the access opening. The hinge comprises a rim portion, integral with the rim, and a lid portion, integral with the lid, that can be engaged to each other to join the lid to the rim. The hinge is are arranged such that the lid portion can only be engaged with the rim portion in the open position of the lid. In the closed position of the lid, the lid portion is locked to the rim portion, preventing separation of the lid portion from the rim portion. The hinge is also arranged to prevent opening of the lid beyond a point at which the package is unstable.
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for treating animal skim milk and sweet whey and/or acid whey, having: (a) ultrafiltration (UF1) of a first liquid composition including animal skim milk with 70-90 wt % casein and 10-30 wt % whey proteins, based on total protein, over a first ultrafiltration membrane having a molecular weight cut-off of 2.5-25 kDa using a volume concentration factor of 1.5-6 to obtain a retentate (UFR1) and a permeate (UFP1); (b) ultrafiltration (UF2) of a second liquid composition including sweet whey and/or acid whey over a second ultrafiltration membrane having a molecular weight cut-off of 2.5-25 kDa using a volume concentration factor of 2-15 to obtain a retentate (UFR2) and a permeate (UFP2); and (c) mixing the UF retentate originating from step (a) with the UF retentate originating from step (b) to obtain a mixture of UF retentates.

Abstract: The invention pertains to the use of a composition comprising per serving between 50-300 kcal; between 10 g and 35 g proteinaceous matter; and at least 2.5 microgram vitamin D, for the manufacture of a nutritional product for (a) the treatment or prevention of muscle mass decrease, (b) stimulation of muscle mass increase; or (d) stimulating muscle mass preservation, in obese or overweight adults of at least 40 years of age participating in a weight loss program. The inventors surprisingly found that nutritional supplementation with a low-caloric composition rich in protein, particularly whey protein and leucine, compared to an iso-caloric control supplement without protein, synergistically leads to preservation of muscle mass during a weight loss program involving a hypocaloric diet and a resistance exercise program in overweight/obese older adult.
