Abstract: This invention provides a method for syntheses of new electroluminescent conjugated polymers modified with high electronegative heterocyclic groups (such as 1,3,4-oxadiazole-diyl, 1,3,4-thiadiazole-diyl, and 1,2,4-triazole-diyl). These electroluminescent polymers (homopolymers, statistical copolymers or block coplymers) are obtained by polymerization of bis(halomethyl) arenes modified with heterocyclic groups via the Wessling precursor route, Gilch side chain route, Wittig reaction or Wittig-Hornor reaction. By a proper selection of the monomers and their ratios in the polymerization, the emissive polymers (fully conjugated or limited conjugating length) covering the full visible range even extending to the near-IR range can be prepared. The polymeric light emitting diodes (PLED) with these materials as emissive layer or electron transport layer have high external quantum efficiency and can be used as indicators and displays for cellular phones, pagers, portable computer, wristwatch, toys, etc.

  • Publication number: 20020182767
Abstract: A high-sensitivity Pd/InP hydrogen sensor was made by a) forming an n-type or p-type semiconductor film on a semiconductor substrate; b) forming a patterned first metal electrode on said semiconductor film, wherein said first metal electrode forms an Ohmic contact with said semiconductor film; and c) forming a second metal electrode on said semiconductor film, said second metal electrode being isolated from said first metal electrode, wherein said second metal electrode forms a Schottky contact with said semiconductor film, wherein a thickness of said second metal electrode and a material of which said second metal electrode is made enable a Schottky barrier height of said Schottky contact to decrease when hydrogen contacts said second metal electrode. The second metal electrode can be physical vapor deposited or electroless plated.

  • Patent number: 5962460
Abstract: The present invention provides antineoplastic .alpha.-methylene-.gamma.-butyrolactones represented by the general formula ?I! wherein R.sub.1 is a phenyl group optionally substituted with one or two groups selected from the group consisting of halide, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkoxy, phenyl, nitro and amino;.sub.2 R represents hydrogen, halide, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl or benzyl; X represents N; or wherein R.sub.1 is a phenyl group optionally substituted with one or two groups selected from the group consisting of halide, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4)alkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.4) alkoxy, nitro and amino; R.sub.2 represents Cl, F, or benzyl; X represents CH. These .alpha.-methylene-.gamma.-butyrolactones may be administered with an inert diluent or with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier in controlling the growth of a neoplasm in a patient afflicted with a neoplasm disease.

  • Patent number: 5656274
Abstract: The present invention discloses the method of isolation and purification of the bioactive constituents cinnamophilin from Cinnamomum philippinense (Merr.), the same as Machilus acuminatissima (Hayata). Pharmacological evaluation showed that these compounds possess the activity to inhibit platelet aggregation and to produce relaxing effects of aortic vascular constriction.

  • Patent number: 5641859
Abstract: The present invention discloses a water-soluble self-acid-doped polyaniline, and its sodium salt, which can be cast into free-standing films from their aqueous solutions. A process for preparing a water-soluble self-acid-doped polyaniline is also disclosed, which comprises reacting a polyaniline with a strong base to convert the amino nitrogen thereof to anionic nitrogen; reacting sultone with the anionic nitrogen to form a side chain alkanesulfonic acid group; doping with protonic acid to form precipitate; dissolving (undoping) the precipitate in an alkaline aqueous solution; removing excess alkali from the alkaline aqueous solution; and contacting the resulting aqueous solution with a H.sup.+ -type ion exchange resin. Moreover, an aqueous solution of the present water-soluble self-acid-doped PAn can be easily mixed with an additional water soluble polymer or polymer emulsion, which can then be cased into a polymer blend film having improved mechanical properties and coupling strength to a substrate.
