    Abstract: A cylindrical can cover to be mounted onto an opening of the can is disclosed, which includes a top plate and a peripheral wall extending downwardly from the peripheral margin of the top plate. The top plate is divided into two parts, one part being stationary on the opening of the can and including a scraper extending across the top plate and extending downwardly from the underside of the top plate, and the other part being swingable up and down and including a folding line extending along the scraper across the top plate. The peripheral wall includes a sealing band connected at a thinner wall portion and having its bottom end extending laterally, and a detachable part extending vertically at each of positions corresponding to opposite ends of the folding line extending to the peripheral edge of the top plate.

    Abstract: A can has a film which is stretched on the inside of an end plate thereof so as to be deflectable in and out of contact with the end plate so that the can which has heated contents packed and sealed therein can be prevented from deformation caused as the contents cool down. The above-mentioned can is manufactured by overlaying the end plate and the film one on top of the other and then unitarily securing the end brim of the can body and the peripheral edge portion of the end plate to each other by double seaming, with the film disposed on the inside of the end plate.

    Abstract: A can or similar container usually equipped with a removable top cover includes a thin-foil partition that is detachably mounted over the open top of the can body, the thin-foil partition carrying a peripheral score or cut line and a straight score or cut line defining a semi-circular dispensing opening area, and a finger grip which allows the partition to be detached along the two score lines to provide a semi-circular dispensing opening. The partition is made of a thin film material, and includes a rivet-like hollow bulge integrally formed thereon, which is backed by a reinforcing filler member inside to solidify the hollow bulge. The finger grip is solidly secured to an appropriate position of the partition by means of the reinforced bulge, and pulling it up with a finger causes the semi-circular dispensing opening area of the partition to be detached apart from the can body. The straight-line cut edge left after the removal of the opening area serves as a scraper edge for smoothing the excess on a spoon.

    Abstract: A can manufacturing method comprises applying a water-soluble resin sealing substance to the side and end seam edges of a can body blank and end plates, producing a thin layer of sealing substance on the side and end seam edges under hot drying atmospheres, seaming the side edges of the body blank including the end edges of the end plates to form a complete can, and subjecting the seamed portions to an applied heating to allow the layered sealing substance in the seamed portions to melt and unite the seamed portions. The apparatus permits a sealing substance to be applied on the side edges of a can body blank on the conveying path.

All layers of the seamed sheet are tightly joined opposite each other in the curled and seamed portion, thus hermetically sealing a finished can.
