    Abstract: During a maintenance inspection, an optical rope diameter measuring device is provided at a predetermined position along a path of a wire rope, rope diameter is measured at multiple measuring points while the elevator is driven in test mode, and diameter reduction at each measuring point is determined and stored as a first diameter reduction (S2_S6). During a subsequent maintenance inspection, rope diameter is similarly measured at each measuring point to determine diameter reduction constituting a second diameter reduction (S7_S11). Based on these two diameter reductions, the time at which diameter reduction will reach a predetermined threshold value is predicted for each measuring point, and the earliest time is displayed as a rope replacement time (S12_S14).

The roller guide assembly (3) is provided with a horizontal fixing shaft (8) which is fixed to a base member (6) and rollers (5a, 5b, 5c) which are supported by the horizontal fixing shaft (8). The rollers (5a, 5b, 5c) are each provided with a roller outer circumference section (10), a rolling bearing (9), an annular rubber (11), and an inner cylinder (12). The configuration eliminates the need for a conventional spring or a conventional damper mechanism because the rubber (11) deforms elastically.

Additionally, said control apparatus is characterized that the time constant value in retardation control is set so as to make low a transient gain of said control amplifier, and further that a preselected bias is supperimposed to a time constant circuit of said control amplifier at an alternating point from a constant speed running to a slowing down of the elevator, in order to prevent the decrement of the transient gain.
