    Abstract: A waterproofing agent for an optical or electric cable, formed of a cross-linked macromolecular compound containing a sulfonic acid group or a salt thereof in an amount of not less than 0.5 mg. equivalent/g and a dissociating group in an amount of not less than 1.0 mg. equivalent/g, and a method for waterproofing said cable by packing said waterproofing agent in the sheath of said cables.
