Patents Assigned to Nittetsu Steel Drum Co., Ltd.
  • Patent number: 4994129
Abstract: A method and apparatus to temporarily cover an opening of a container to prevent the entry of foreign matters during a process in which a large number of containers are handled. A temporary cover has a sticky surface on one side that is large enough to cover the opening of the container. The temporary cover is positioned near the opening of the container, with the sticky surface directed to face the opening. Then, the temporary cover is lightly pressed against the end of the opening so that the cover adheres in position. After a given operation has been completed, the temporary cover is removed from the opening of the container.

  • Patent number: 4705184
Abstract: A metal container has a seam which comprises two continuous groups of concentric circular arcs having a center angle of 180 degrees or 180 degrees and under 180 degrees and centered on two points separated from each other by a distance equal to 1/2 of the sum of the thickness of two metal sheets making up the seam. The axis of the seam is a straight line passing through the two centers that can be inclined at any angle with respect to the axis of the container. The seam has a cross-sectional shape that is mostly point-symmetrical with respect to a center that is the mid-point between the two centers. The seam is formed by an apparatus which comprises a seaming roll and a chuck ring, each of which has a forming groove comprising, in cross-section, two continuous circular arcs centered on two points that are separated from each other by the distance equal to 1/2 of the sum of the thickness of the metal sheets making up the seam.

  • Patent number: 4540323
Abstract: A cylindrical metal container with a relatively large holding capacity has triple seams having a vertically long, generally elongate rectangular cross section, the top and bottom parts of the seam having a convex substantially semi-elliptical or semi-circular profile. The outer face of the seam bulges outward adjacent its top, or its top and bottom, and the middle part between the top and bottom constitutes a pressed groove between the top and bottom and substantially parallel to the axis of the container. The body and end plate flanges are held in strong and direct contact with each other, overlapping each other in the center of the seam. A sealing compound is sealed in a void left between the edge of one flange and the curved portion of the other flange.

  • Patent number: 4392295
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a drum seam. A tray-like end plate having a cylindrical portion forming an indented shape and an outward extending end plate flange formed by the edge of the cylindrical portion is fitted into the end of a cylindrical drum body having a body flange extending outward from the edge thereof perpendicular to the cylindrical axis of the body with the end plate flange overlapping and extending along and beyond the body flange. A seaming chuck having a cylindrical forming face is fitted into the tray-like end plate for holding the body and end plate together with the forming face of the seaming chuck against the inner surface of said cylindrical portion and rotated for rotating the drum body and end plate. The seaming chuck has a fillet on the end adjacent the position where the end plate flange extends from the cylindrical portion and an inclined surface extending from the forming face outwardly thereof.

  • Patent number: 4235359
Abstract: A light-gauge metal container has a closure flange fixed to a container wall, to which a closure plug is detachably screwed. An inwardly projecting cylindrical neck is fastened to the edge of a closure flange receiving opening made in the container wall. The closure flange is inserted in the opening so that the inward ends of the flange and neck flushed with each other, with an annular face formed by the flushed flange and neck ends circularly edge-welded. In manufacturing the container, the closure flange is press-fitted in the receiving opening, with the annular face held in the horizontal position. The assembly is transferred to welding apparatus, and positioned roughly first, then exactly by mating the flange opening with a vertical reference shaft on the welding apparatus. The annular face is edge-welded by rotating a welding torch about the axis of the reference shaft.
