Patent number: 5209161Abstract: A method of mutually adjusting single-color images on a rotary printing press for printing multicolor images on a continuous paper strip, each single-color image being printed by a respective printing cylinder adjusted in relation to the other printing cylinders by selecting a reference cylinder from among the printing cylinders; disconnecting the printing cylinder for adjustment from a transmission common to all the printing cylinders; and reconnecting the transmission and the printing cylinder for adjustment, upon the reference cylinder, powered by the transmission, eliminating any difference in timing in relation to the printing cylinder for adjustment. FIGS. 1 and 4).Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1991Date of Patent: May 11, 1993Assignee: Officine Meccaniche G. Cerutti S.p.A.Inventors: Ezio Derivi, Domenico Barbero

Patent number: 5134937Abstract: A rotary printing press for printing strip paper, wherein a pressure roller is supported for rotation at each end by a pair of jaws of a supporting device on the printing unit. The jaws are lifted and lowered, together with the pressure roller, by a lifting device, and are opened and closed by an actuating device via a prismatic joint defined by a fixed portion and a portion moving with the jaws. The two portions of the prismatic joint mate in sliding manner as the jaws are moved by the lifting device, and, when mated, rotate integral with each other.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 1991Date of Patent: August 4, 1992Assignee: Officine Meccaniche G. Patent number: 4964338Abstract: The marginal portions of a printing plate for rotary printing are joined together to form a cylindrical printing plate, which can be mounted on a printing roller, for example, on a printing roller of extensible diameter. The joint is made by stripping the photosensitive coating of the printing plate at the two marginal portions forming a pocket in one marginal portion and inserting the other marginal portion, bent by about 90.degree., into the pocket. The joint can be made along a circumferential line of the cylinder or along a line which is inclined relative to the circumferential lines of the cylinder. The plate can be mounted with the bent-off and radially inwards-projecting marginal portions, or these marginal portions can be arranged at an inclination to the cylinder radius. The inlet between the two adjacent panels of the pocket is filled with a hardenable material. Thus, a joint is created which forms a continuous, smooth surface for the printing plate in the circumferential direction.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1989Date of Patent: October 23, 1990Assignee: Officine Meccaniche G. Patent number: 4934266Abstract: A printing roller for a rotary press consists of a tubular, elastic, thin shell which is rigidly and tightly joined to the ends of the roller, the roller having peripheral chambers which contain a non-compressible fluid, and with means for displacing the fluid in order thus to increase the external diameter of the printing roller. The devices for displacing the fluid consist of a threaded spindle which can be screwed into a line which is operatively connected to chambers taking up the fluid. The threaded spindle is operatively connected to a coaxially arranged piston which can transmit a pressure force to the fluid in the chambers. The outer edges of the enveloping shell have two lateral enlargements to create a receptacle or a seat for the printing plate which is to be mounted thereon. The receptacle has a depth which corresponds to the thickness of the printing plate. In an advantageous manner, the outer edges of the edge enlargements are rounded.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1989Date of Patent: June 19, 1990Assignee: Officine Meccaniche G. Patent number: 4791867Abstract: The stubs at the ends of the printing cylinder in a rotary printing press can roll along the upper surfaces of two arms each of which carries a plate with two mutually inclined upwardly diverging grooves for a pair of reciprocable stops. The stops can be shifted by cams to assume operative positions in which they flank the respective stubs and maintain them in predetermined positions for attachment of bearings to or for removal of bearings from the stubs. The stops are retractible to levels below the upper surfaces of the respective arms so as to allow for rolling of the stubs along the arms, either to advance the cylinder to its operative position or to roll the cylinder to a position in which it can be lifted off the arms. Detents are provided to yieldably hold the stops in selected positions.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1986Date of Patent: December 20, 1988Assignee: Officine Meccaniche G. Cerutti S.p.A.Inventor: Antonio Deregibus

Patent number: 4729309Abstract: An imprinter, particularly for use downstream of a flexographic printing machine, wherein the stubs at the ends of the counterpressure roller which forms part of the web guiding system are suspended on levers. The levers are pivotable about a horizontal axis defined by a pivot member on one or more carriages which are movable in the frame up and down to move the counterpressure cylinder nearer to or further away from two printing cylinders. The printing cylinders flank the counterpressure cylinder and their stubs are removably installed in open-sided sockets which are provided therefor in the sidewalls of the frame. Each printing cylinder receives ink from a discrete source.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1987Date of Patent: March 8, 1988Assignee: Officine Meccaniche G. Cerutti S.p.A.Inventors: Mario Saterini, Gianfranco Gibellino, Mario Forno
