Abstract: This present invention is a composition for making artificial fingernails which is non-yellowing, and which polymerizes rapidly during use, and a method of making such composition, as well as a method of using the composition in the formation of artificial fingernails. Compositions of this invention comprise a liquid binder portion containing one or more monomeric methacrylate esters; optionally one or more di-, tri-, or multi-functional methacrylate esters, an alcohol, and a tertiary amine accelerator; a polymeric filler portion containing a finely divided polymer, and an organic peroxide polymerization initiator. The compositions of the present invention will polymerize in from about 120 seconds to about 360 seconds, resulting in a hard and resilient non-yellowing polymer.

Abstract: A wrist supporter made of polyurethane foam formed into a polyhedron having an L-shape cross-section adapted for installation on an edge of a work surface. In particular, two interior faces of the wrist supporter engage the top and side of the table or work surface. Hook and pile fasteners are provided on one of the interior faces for attachment to the work surface, either on top of the work surface or on the side. Thus, a flat surface incorporated into the contours of the wrist supporter can be disposed facing up or out sideways.
Abstract: A form for providing a support for the application of artificial fingernail material is disclosed herein. The form is generally horseshoe-shaped, the improvement comprising the addition of a lip member on the portion of the platform adjacent to the finger. The lip member provides additional support and attachment sites for the form to the finger and prevents bowing of the form as a result of notches provided on each side of the lip member accommodate folds of skin on the sides of the nail.
Abstract: An invented composition for promoting the adhesion of adhesives, coatings and/or composites to proteinsceous substrates is disclosed comprising a water-miscible solvent; and an unsaturated caboxylic acid of the general formula: ##STR1## where R.sub.1 is selected from CH.dbd.CH, C(CH.sub.3).dbd.C(CH.sub.3), C(CH.sub.3).dbd.CH, CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2, or CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 ; and R.sub.2 is selected from a terminally mono-, di-, tri-, or multi- unsaturated group. Methods of making the compound and methods of its use are also disclosed.
Abstract: This invention relates to materials and methods for obtaining strong adhesive bonds of coatings, composites and adhesives to proteinaceous substrates consisting either entirely, or in part of keratin, are disclosed. The invented materials comprise a non-aqueous solvent capable of adjusting the pH of the surface of the substrate to a pH of 8.0 or greater. The invented method comprises treating the substrate with the invented material until the pH of the surface is in the range of pH 9.0 to 11.0, followed by bonding a coating, composite or adhesive thereto.
