  • Patent number: 5766179
Abstract: An all-mechanical system for bone-drilling alignment of a blind distal bone-screw hole of an installed intramedullary nail, wherein the system provides (i) a drill jig that features a longitudinally adjustable nail-contactable contact-rod mounting in the jig and (ii) a drill-guide which can align with the blind distal bone-screw hole for a correct nail-contactable adjustment of the contact rod. The system enables the surgeon to check-out the drill jig in assembled relation to a selected intramedullary nail, prior to nail installation, and to perform an adjustment to compensate for nail diameter when the contact end of the rod engages the nail. He can then either visually satisfy himself of the drill-guide/bolt-hole alignment, or he can use a plug-gage or trocar tool having guidance in the drill guide, and checking for whether the plug gage has entry into the bone-screw hole in the intramedullary nail.

  • Patent number: 5662648
Abstract: An auxiliary device for use in the external setting of fractures is particularly adapted for use in association with an external axial fixator or splint having bolt-holding clamps with spherical joints for fixing bone bolts or screws which can be implanted in fractured pieces of bone. The auxiliary device comprises a central body which can be elongated axially and has end portions which can be releasably coupled to corresponding bolt-holding clamps on an external axial fixator or splint associated therewith; the said end portions are attached to the central body by means of corresponding hinges having hinge axes (20, 20') which are retained in parallel relation to each other and perpendicular to the axis of the body, and securing means is provided for selecting the orientation of the axes of these hinges, without changing their retained parallel-axis relation, so as to allow the bolt-holding clamps to rotate in a single plane at a time of predetermined position.

  • Patent number: 5433720
Abstract: A jig is detachably secured to the proximal end of an installed intramedullary nail having a transverse bolt hole near the distal end of the nail. The jig comprises an offsetting arm which so mounts the proximal part of hinged elongate template structure as to render the distal part thereof angularly movable in a geometric plane substantially parallel to the nail. One or more spaced guide bores near the distal end of the movable distal part is on an axis perpendicular to the geometric plane. When the jig is chucked to the nail, the axes of the one or more guide bores of the template are parallel to the axes of one or more bolt holes of the nail; and corresponding guide-bore axis and bolt-hole axes are at identical distance from the offsetting arm.

  • Patent number: 5320622
Abstract: A dynamic external axial splint for use in rehabilitating a fractured bone comprises a pair of spaced clamps for bone screws or bolts anchored to the respective fragments of the fractured bone. A central body releasably and universally connects and locks these spaced clamps via ball-joints having provision for selective retention of a wide variety of angular relations, between the central body and the central axis of each of the spaced clamps. The central body comprises first and second end members and a third or intermediate member, affording on the one hand, longitudinally and adjustably fixed lap of one end member with the intermediate member, and also affording limited resiliently snubbed and axially guided displaceability as between the intermediate member and the other end member, thus rendering the two end members and the respective bone-fragment anchorages clamped to the end members subject to the same axially guided and resiliently snubbed action.
