The motor is configured to receive stored energy from the battery to drive the axle and provide the auxiliary braking function to the axle through a regenerative braking operation to charge the battery. The controller is configured to monitor a state of charge of the battery and prevent charging the battery through the regenerative braking operation while maintaining the auxiliary braking function of the driveline when the state of charge of the battery is approaching, at, or above a state of charge threshold.
