Abstract: The disclosed technology includes utility pole repair plates for repairing a pole, such as a utility pole. One or more utility pole repair plates may be attached to a utility pole in an interconnected fashion to cover a portion or the entire circumference of a utility pole. A utility pole repair plate may include multiple substantially planar interconnected plate segments disposed at angles designed to accommodate a particular pole geometry.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are compositions comprising a dispersion of solid particles of a substantially insoluble copper compound in an amount from 0.001% to 10% by weight of the composition; a boron-containing compound, a fluoride-containing compound, or a combination thereof; and an aqueous carrier; wherein the composition has a viscosity of 125 to 425 tenths of a millimeter (tmm) as measured using a penetrometer, and wherein at least 20% of the particles of the composition comprise particles having particle size greater than 25 microns. Also disclosed herein are methods of making and using the same.

Abstract: In an example implementation, a method includes receiving, at a processor, historical pole data records representing utility poles and having one or more pole attributes. Likewise, a method includes generating one or more pole subpopulations of historical pole data records having at least one common pole attribute. Further, the method includes performing a predictive algorithm on each pole subpopulation. Finally, the method includes determining, based on a predictive algorithm, the number of poles in the particular subpopulation that are likely to meet a rejection condition within a specified time frame. In another example implementation, a method includes receiving a sample pole data record representing a particular sample data pole and determining the likelihood of the particular sample utility pole meeting a rejection condition within a specified time frame.
Abstract: A solid body of dazomet for use in internal remedial treatments of wood and methods of applying such solid bodies to wooden structures and manufacturing such solid bodies. The solid bodies can be easily transported and inserted into treatment holes in utility poles, wooden pilings, and other wooden structures, delivering a precise, accurate dose of insecticide and fungicide that combats internal decay in the wood.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to an apparatus, system, and method for determining the extent of penetration of a preservative in wood. More particularly, the present invention is directed, in certain embodiments, to an apparatus comprising an image sensor capable of detecting a color spectrum of a sample, and a light source; a system comprising an image sensor, a light source, a sample treated with a preservative, an indicator applied to the sample, and a computing device coupled to the image sensor, wherein the computing device is capable of processing an image captured by the image sensor and determining the extent of penetration of the preservative; and methods for using such an apparatus and system to determine the extent of penetration of a preservative in wood by identifying changes in color of wood, wood products, or wood samples.

Abstract: A method for capturing information regarding utility equipment installed at a location comprises the steps of making a site visit to the location; recording voice narration about the utility equipment as the utility equipment is inspected by a narrator during the site visit; recording video of the utility equipment during the site visit; recording identification information for identifying the utility equipment; and entering attribute data corresponding to the utility equipment into a database, wherein the entered attribute data includes data derived from the recorded voice narration, the recorded video, and the recorded identification information. In an embodiment of the invention, the steps of recording voice narration, recording video, and recording identification information are performed simultaneously using a camcorder connected to a GPS receiver via an encoder such that location coordinates are recorded as audio frequency shift keying (AFSK) tones in an audio channel of the camcorder.

Abstract: A pole reinforcement truss has an open cross-sectional configuration characterized by opposite side flanges that diverge with respect to one another as they extend from respective opposite side edges of the truss body. In one embodiment, the cross-sectional configuration has an intermediate curved bend through an excluded bend angle and a pair of curved bridge bends on opposite sides of the intermediate curved bend each through an included bend angle, wherein all three curved bends have the same radius of curvature. The truss maintains its geometry in an improved manner after the onset of yielding, thereby increasing ultimate strength of the pole-truss assembly.
