Abstract: A garment hanger is provided comprising a middle section with a hanging member such as a hook mounted thereon and two end sections with means for engaging a garment. At least one of the end sections is arranged for sliding movement relative to the middle section between a retracted position and an extended position. In particular, the end section may be telescopically mounted within the middle section. The end section is urged towards the extended position by an elastomeric band. In one aspect of the invention, the elastomeric band, when in the retracted position of the end section, is longer than the length of overlap between the said end section and the middle section. In another aspect of the invention, the band is trained in a path such that, as it stretches, an increasing proportion of the material of the band extends between the end section and the middle section to urge those sections apart.
