The mechanical pencil includes the lead holding member disposed in the neighborhood of the tip of a shaft tube, in which the exterior shape of the lead holding member is formed to be slightly smaller than the interior shape of the shaft tube in which the lead holding member is disposed, and an inner step portion for preventing the dropping of the lead holding member from the shaft tube is disposed in the front portion of the lead holding member.
