  • Patent number: 7871233
Abstract: A cart lifter is provided that is adapted to be mounted to a refuse container or directly to a refuse collection vehicle. A support is provided that is adapted to be pivotally mounted adjacent to the loading area of either the refuse container or the vehicle. First and second support arms are provided that are carried by the pivoting support. The support arms are movable relative to the support frame between a first position in which the support arms are adjacent the refuse container or vehicle and a second position in which the support arms are relatively angularly disposed with their free ends being spaced outwardly away from the support frame. A container capturer is provided for engaging and releasing a smaller refuse collection cart, and the free ends of each of the support arms are adapted to carry the container capturer.

  • Patent number: 7806645
Abstract: A refuse collection cart lifter is provided with a lock/release mechanism that prevents relative movement between the upper and lower hooks when the lifter is in the inverted position, but permits such relative movement when released so as to permit the lifter to have a an adaptable or “breakaway” feature This allows the lifter to be mounted on vertical surfaces that may prevent the lifter from retracting to a recessed position when in the lowered or retracted position, but still permit the first actuator arms supporting the lower hook to pivot freely with respect to the lift arms should an obstacle be engaged.

  • Patent number: 7390159
Abstract: A refuse receptacle lifter is disclosed that is mounted on a transporter secured to the front end of a collection vehicle rearwardly of an associated collection container. The transporter is adapted to move the lifter in a generally side-to-side direction relative to the collection container in order to move the lifter between a retracted position and a position in which it is spaced from the collection container so that it can engage a refuse receptacle. If the collection vehicle does not have a collection container. being carried on the front of the vehicle, the lifter may be moved to stored position generally adjacent to the front end of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 7273340
Abstract: A cart lifter is disclosed for lifting and inverting a refuse collection cart. The preferred cart lifter comprises a base and preferably has a lift member pivotally mounted with respect to the base for engaging the upper engagement surface of a refuse cart and a hook for capturing the lower engagement surface on the cart. An actuator is mounted to the base and is operatively attached to the lift member and hook for moving them between a lower and a raised and inverted positions. An actuator arm pivotally connects the base to the hook and the hook is mounted for movement between a position for capturing the lower engagement surface of the collection cart and a retracted position.

  • Patent number: 7128515
Abstract: A refuse receptacle lifter is disclosed which is movable between a retracted and a dumping position for lifting and inverting refuse receptacles of the type including spaced apart upper and lower engagement surfaces. The lifter may include an actuator with a rotary output shaft, a lift arm attached to the rotary output shaft, an upper engagement member carried at least in part by the lift arm, a first actuator arm pivotally mounted to the lift arm and a second actuator arm pivotally mounted to the base. The actuator arms are attached to an extension assembly that carries a lower engagement member. Upon rotation of the output shaft, the upper engagement member is moved between a lower retracted position and a raised position and the lower engagement member is moved between a retracted position and an extended position, for lifting and inverting a refuse receptacle.

  • Patent number: 6929441
Abstract: A lifter including a motor which is secured to a base, the motor having a shaft rotatable about a first axis. At least one lift arm is secured to the rotatable shaft, with at least one actuator arm pivotally mounted to the base for rotation about a second axis displaced from the axis of the rotatable shaft. A carriage is provided that has two hooks for selectively engaging the spaced-apart bars that are on the container that is to be lifted, the hooks being selectively engageable with the bars so as to secure the container to the carriage during the dumping action. The first and second hooks are connected to each other by a telescoping member, one end of the telescoping member being rigidly connected to the lift arm and the other end of the telescoping member being pivotally connected to the actuator arm.

  • Patent number: 6921239
Abstract: A lifting device for lifting and tilting a refuse container includes a base, a drive unit mounted to the base and having a rotatable output shaft, a carriage for engaging and lifting the refuse container, at least one lift arm having a first end carried by the output shaft and a second end associated with the carriage, and at least one actuator arm having a first end pivotably carried by the base and a second end pivotably associated with the carriage. One of the lift arm or the actuator arm is pivotable at a location along the length thereof to allow movement of the carriage relative to the base and independent of rotation of the output shaft allowing movement of the carriage in response to obstacles or road debris so as to prevent damage to the lifter.
