Patent number: 5055703Abstract: A battery operated standby inverter power supply uses an electromechanical relay switching network to connect and disconnect line power between input and output terminals. An overcurrent relay pulser rapidly opens the switching system relay contacts upon transition to battery mode, and a breakover diode network accelerates field collapse in the relay coil attendant to reversion of the relay to its normally closed condition attendant to each battery to line transition. A fault detector establishes acceptable line voltage thresholds, the exceeding of either of which triggers operation from line to battery mode. These triggering thresholds are automatically pulled closer together during initial system startup. During system startup and attendant to each battery-to-line transition, the fault detector is momentarily latched to indicate acceptable line voltage conditions, thereby removing its susceptibility to transient retriggering.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1990Date of Patent: October 8, 1991Assignee: Perma Power Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Louis W. Patent number: 5053910Abstract: A surge protection circuit for insertion into a coaxial cable system is configured as a coaxial structure of given characteristic impedance extending between matching input and output connection. A surge suppression network is built into the coaxial housing, and includes a shunt inductor shunting the center conductor at an intermediate point to the housing. A capacity is series-inserted into the output section of the center conductor beyond the inductor. The capacitor is a plate-shaped element metalized on both faces and edge-inserted into the confronting line sections of the center conductor and soldered thereto, so that capacitor lead inductance is incorporated into the center conductor. At the passband frequency of cable television communications the reactance of the inductor is high compared to the characteristic impedance, and similarly the reactnace of the capacitor is low, resulting in negligible insertion loss to the system.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1989Date of Patent: October 1, 1991Assignee: Perma Power Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Richard Goldstein

Patent number: 4956563Abstract: A battery operated standby inverter power supply uses an electromechanical relay switching network to connect and disconnect line power between input and output terminals. These triggering thresholds are automatically pulled closer together during initial system startup. An overload detector senses the load current in line mode and prevents actuation to battery mode if the load connected to the power supply output exceeds the rated current value of the inverter.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1987Date of Patent: September 11, 1990Assignee: Perma Power Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Louis W. Patent number: 4890005Abstract: A battery-operated standby power supply includes a circuit for the detection of failures in A.C. power line voltage provides immediate detection of power failure even if such failure occurs during the times of line voltage axis crossings. This is accomplished by providing and monitoring the amplitude of a synthesized waveform representing a full-wave rectified replica of the line voltage, combined with a 90.degree. phase-shifted full-wave rectified replica of the line voltage waveform. The composite waveform has a peak-to-peak excursion of approximately 20% about a DC average without nulls. The phase-shifted waveform replicas are produced by a phase shift network configured to provide a strong differentiating function, thereby causing the phase-shifted replicas to reflect virtually instantaneously failure of the power line voltage, and in particular failure in the vicinity of an axis crossing, by an immediate change in amplitude. Transient overvoltages and undervoltages are similarly reflected.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1987Date of Patent: December 26, 1989Assignee: Perma Power Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Louis W. Schornack

Patent number: 4808495Abstract: An insulating battery cover is configured to be locked into place by insertion of either one of a pair of connectors making contact with the battery. The cover is designed for use with batteries having insertion-type terminals configured to accept inserted connectors. A pair of shell-forming projections are provided integral with the housing and configured to accommodate the battery terminals when the cover is in place. An aperture in each projection is configured to allow insertion of the associated connector. Portions of the cover local to the projections are provided, and arrestingly engage exterior insulating portions of the connectors to hinder removal of the cover unless both connectors have been removed.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1987Date of Patent: February 28, 1989Assignee: Perma Power Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Richard Goldstein

Patent number: 4587588Abstract: A power line transient surge suppressor circuit features a nonlinear surge-bypassing network connected to bypass line surges around electrical loads connected to circuit output terminals. A fuse is inserted in series with the network, and blows in the event of short-circuit failure of a regulator device in the network. A thermal cut-out preferably of the irreversibly actuated type is inserted in series with the suppressor circuit input. A current-limiting heater resistor connected in parallel with the fuse supplies heat to trip the cut-out after the fuse blows, thereby permanently terminating power output to the loads. A similar suppression network is provided for the earth lead in three-wire systems.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1984Date of Patent: May 6, 1986Assignee: Perma Power Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Richard Goldstein

Patent number: 4398647Abstract: Housings for electrical and electronic products are required in certain instances to be mounted in a temporary manner and some of such housings are required or desired to be incapable of being permanently mounted. The present invention relates to a method of mounting a housing wherein the housing can be attached to and removed from a fastener means without removing the fastener from the mounting surface of the housing or without requiring adjustment in any manner. The present mounting means operates as a temporary mounting for a typical housing and is incorporated into means for closing the housing case and in a first mounting position is incapable of being permanently mounted. In a second alternate position, the mounting means can be utilized for permanently mounting a housing to a wall or other surface.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1981Date of Patent: August 16, 1983Assignee: Perma Power Electronics, Inc.Inventor: Norman A.
