Patent number: 5094131Abstract: A bar clamp having a fixed jas and a movable jaw which is radially movable over both short and long distances to clamp against a workpiece and is operable using one hand with complete control by the operator at all times. The jaws may either face one another while being mounted on the same dise of a handle/grip assembly or face in opposite directions while being mounted on opposite sides of the handle/grip assembly whereby they may be incrementally advanced by the trigger handle/driving lever. Another embodiment uses a substrate comprising a plurality of apertures to receive posts thus acting as a vise type of clamp/wrench.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1991Date of Patent: March 10, 1992Assignee: Petersen Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventors: Joseph A. Sorensen, Dwight L. Gatzemeyer

Patent number: 5056385Abstract: A quick release for a conventional plier-type, toggle-locking hand tool comprises a compound toggle link. The new link is pivotably mounted between the movable handle and the conventional toggle member. Four pivot points rather than the usual three form the "power line" of the tool. Locking the tool involves pushing the two internal pivot points inwardly across the power line. Release involves opening the handles which moves the internal pivot points back across the power line. Depending on the dimensions of the actual hand tool, the mechanical advantage of the novel compound link is between 4 to 16.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1990Date of Patent: October 15, 1991Assignee: Petersen Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventor: Ralph Petersen

Patent number: 5022137Abstract: A bar clamp, which is operable with one hand, includes a fixed jaw and a movable jaw. The movable jaw connects at one end to a movable slide bar. One-way drive means, by operation of a trigger handle grip, releasably engages the slide bar and advances the movable jaw toward the fixed jaw. Return motion of the movable jaw is accomplished manually when the one-way drive means is disengaged. A braking lever, biased to bind against the slide bar, prevents reverse motion of the movable jaw except when disengaged from the slide bar. The trigger handle advances the slide bar by driving a second lever which binds against a slide bar surface. The second lever returns by spring force to its original position after each stroke of the trigger handle.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1989Date of Patent: June 11, 1991Assignee: Petersen Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventors: Joseph A. Sorensen, Dwight L. Gatzemeyer

Patent number: 4730524Abstract: A long nose locking hand tool having a pair of opposing jaw members, a fixed handle, a movable handle, and lever locking means therebetween for maintaining a toggle relationship between the jaws when in a closed position; wherein each of the jaw members comprises a jaw face having a total jaw length to average jaw height ratio of from about 6.5 to about 8.5 made of an alloy spring steel with a hardness range of from about 53 to about 57 Rockwell C, having a nominal parallel opening when they are spaced apart, approximately 3/16 inch, thereby enabling said jaw members to clamp a workpiece up to 3/16 inch thick.Furthermore, said fixed handle has an adjustment screw and a strike surface with an axis passing through said strike surface defining the direction of a line of force impartable to the hand tool; said pair of jaws further defining a bisecting axis formed by the angle of said jaws when closed against a workpiece, and the angle between said axes being less than 50.degree.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1985Date of Patent: March 15, 1988Assignee: Petersen Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventor: Christian Petersen
