Patent number: 6179654Abstract: A cord set including a housing and a coupling mechanism adapted to couple the housing to a structure. The cord set includes a first cord having a first end connectable to a power source and a second end connected to a plug. The cord set also includes a second cord having a first end connectable to the electrical device and a second end connectable to the plug. The housing includes a body defining an axis, an outer surface and a cavity. A first embodiment of the coupling mechanism includes axially spaced ribs extending from an outer surface of the housing body and a snap ring connectable to the structure and the housing. A second embodiment of the coupling mechanism includes a peg protruding from the housing and a lock nut with a detent for coupling the peg to the lock nut. Finally, a third embodiment of the coupling mechanism includes a saddle and cup each having a ridge that cooperates with the axial spaced ribs to couple the housing to the automobile body.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1999Date of Patent: January 30, 2001Assignee: Phillips & Temro Industries Ltd.Inventors: Ireneusz Witkowski, Claudio Zubin

Patent number: 6171118Abstract: The present invention includes a plug assembly and cord set for use with an automobile accessory that is mounted to an automobile body. The plug assembly includes a plug body having a contact surface, electrical contacts coupled to the plug body and projecting from the contact surface, and a protector cap that accommodates the contacts and protects the contacts from the surrounding environment when the protector cap is in its closed position. The protector cap includes a contact cavity and a cap seal surface surrounding the contact cavity at an open end thereof. The protector cap is coupled to the plug body for pivotal movement between an open position and a closed position wherein the electrical contacts are disposed within the contact cavity and the cap seal surface engages the contact surface to seal the contact cavity when the protector cap is in its closed position.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1999Date of Patent: January 9, 2001Assignee: Phillips & Temro Industries Ltd.Inventors: Ireneusz Witkowski, Claudio Zubin

Patent number: 6036530Abstract: A modular tank heater apparatus including a housing defining a cavity and a receptacle that is in communication with the cavity, a heater element coupled to the housing, and a set of cords selectively connectable to the heater element to provide either a permanent or releasable electrical connection. Each of the set of cords includes a plug with a generic portion and a specific portion. The generic portion of the plugs are selectively disposable in the receptacle to engage the housing and create a first seal between the plug and the housing. Additionally, the plugs define a seal surface engageable with the housing to create a second seal between the plug and the housing. The present invention also provides a method of manufacturing the modular tank heater. Finally, the present invention includes a tank heater having a mounting assembly for selectively connecting the housing to a body in a variety of positions.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1997Date of Patent: March 14, 2000Assignee: Phillips & Temro Industries Ltd.Inventors: Gary C. Patent number: 5567337Abstract: A block heater for the cooling fluid of an engine block has a main body with a surrounding flange at the front face for engaging into an aperture in the block. A clamping element attached to the rear face can be actuated by a screw which is rotated from the front face to pull the clamping element into engagement with the inside surface of the block to cooperate with the flange in a clamping action. The clamping member cooperates with the screw to be pulled forwardly. The rear face of the clamping member has a countersink around the threaded bore therethrough and the screw has a bore in the end face thereof so that a portion of the screw material can be worked into a flange surrounding the end of the screw to engage into the countersink portion. This arrangement prevents reverse rotation of the screw from releasing the clamping member for discharge into the engine compartment.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1994Date of Patent: October 22, 1996Assignee: Phillips & Temro Industries Ltd.Inventors: Gary C.
