  • Patent number: 5169039
Abstract: A hand-held, manually-actuated dispenser for selective discharge of a stored fluid includes a discharge outlet defined in an elongated housing and a reciprocatable elongated member normally maintained in a first position closing the discharge opening for preventing a release of contained fluid. Also defined in the housing is a first chamber for containing fluid for discharge from the discharge opening, a second chamber or reservoir for storing a supply of the contained fluid, and a passage between the first and second chambers for enabling contained fluid flow therebetween. The elongated member is movable in a first direction from the first to a second position in which the discharge opening is opened for enabling a release of contained fluid from the first chamber and in a second direction from the second to the first position to refill the first chamber from the second and thereby complete a two-stroke fluid-discharging operation of the dispenser.

  • Patent number: 5044523
Abstract: A user-controlled manually-actuatable pumpable dispenser for hydraulically-driven discharge of a stored fluid incorporates a flexible wall or web-like barrier capable of containing a highly volatile fluid while accomodating mechanical and hydraulic dispenser-actuating deformations for initiating or effecting a discharge of the stored fluid. The barrier is formed of a relatively thin wall of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) material having a predetermined thickness selected so as to render the barrier sufficiently flexible for accomodating deformations in accordance with which a discharge of fluid from the dispenser is hydraulically effected.

  • Patent number: 5033652
Abstract: A hand-held, manually-actuated dispenser for selective discharge of a stored fluid includes a discharge outlet and a reciprocatable actuating member movable between a first position normally closing the outlet and a second position opening the outlet to enable a discharge of stored fluid. The actuating member carries an inadvertent-actuation locking element which is automatically engageable with an inwardly-displaceable portion of the dispenser housing. When an associated closure cap is seated about the discharge end of the dispenser during periods of nonuse of the device, the housing portion is inwardly-displaced by the cap into cooperative engagement with the locking element whereby movement of the actuating member out of its first, outlet-closing position and, accordingly, any release of stored fluid from within the dispenser interior are prevented.

  • Patent number: 4991749
Abstract: A manually-operated dispenser for user-controlled discharge of an internally-stored fluid includes a variable length assembly normally driven to its maximum longitudinal extension for fluid-tightly closing a fluid discharge opening and a vent opening disposed at opposite ends of an elongated housing, a piston bounding an end of an internal fluid reservoir and operatively movable along the housing for volumetrically reducing the reservoir and for driving stored fluid toward and through the discharge opening, and an actuator assembly manually operable by the user for causing controlled foreshortening of the variable length assembly whereby the fluid discharge and vent openings are concurrently opened permitting the forced discharge of a correspondingly controlled volume of stored fluid.

  • Patent number: 4974908
Abstract: A brush is fabricated by forming a plurality of filaments into a tuft. The proximal ends of the filaments in the tuft are secured together to define a brush head. An elongated, substantially flexible tube having a longitudinally-extending passageway therethrough is inserted into a peripherally-interior portion of the tuft. The filaments which lie immediately adjacent the tube are then secured to the tube periphery along substantially the full length of the tube so as to positionally fix the tube within the filaments tuft and thereby define an integral and substantially flexible fluid distribution channel in the brush for feeding a flowable fluid through the brush from the brush head to the filaments proximate their distal ends for selective application of the fluid to a workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4968103
Abstract: A brush adapted for selective application of a flowable fluid to a workpiece is formed in its entirety of a heat fusible synthetic material and includes a hollow head section, a plurality of bristles depending from the head section, and a fluid distribution channel defined by a flexible membrane and extending substantially axially within the radial interior of the bristles from the head section of the brush toward the free ends of the bristles. Fluid fed to the brush head is delivered through the head section to the distribution channel and is discharged from the channel onto the bristles within the interior of the bristle tuft and proximate the bristle ends for facilitated distribution among the bristles and ready application to a workpiece by the user.

  • Patent number: 4907841
Abstract: A brush adapted for selective application of a flowable fluid to a workpiece--and which includes a hollow head section, a plurality of bristles depending from the head section, and a fluid distribution channel defined by a flexible membrane and extending substantially axially within the radial interior of the bristles from the head section of the brush toward the free ends of the bristles--is formed in its entirety of a heat-fusible synthetic material. A tuft of synthetic material in filamentary form is inserted into a mold cavity and a heated die is moved into closely proximate but predeterminately spaced apart relation with the mold for transferring to the mold sufficient heat to fuse the adjacent filament ends and form the brush head section. A heated pin is then inserted into and retracted from the mold cavity through the brush head section to form the distribution channel membrane.
