Abstract: A configurable electronic system provides a software based system by which researchers set up self-monitoring field protocols in a common computer format and deploy the protocols to computer devices to research participants. The system includes electronic software modules of tasks useful in generating of questionnaires for recording research data. By selecting, modifying and sequencing the modules, a researcher generates a sequence of questionnaires to be displayed on the computer devices operated by the research participants. The participants' computer devices include alert queues to stage questionnaires to be presented to a participant and resolve conflicts between questionnaires staged at substantially the same time.

Abstract: A method of automated sleep behavior modification for insomnia and other sleep problems using a computerized treatment system including: determining a baseline sleep pattern of a user and storing in the system data indicative of the baseline sleep pattern; generating a sleep behavior regimen based on the stored sleep pattern data and a behavior modification algorithm, wherein the algorithm generates sleep inducement behavior prompts; prompting the user to perform a predetermined sleep inducement behavior at a time determined by the regimen; tracking the sleep behavior of the user and storing data indicative of the tracked sleep behavior; modifying the regimen based on the tracked sleep behavior, and prompting the user to perform the predetermined sleep inducement behavior at a time determined by the modified regimen.
Abstract: In the preferred embodiment, a hand-held computer prepares and monitors a goal-oriented weight, nutrition and exercise control program. Visual and audio prompts tell users when to eat and exercise, and provide suggestions for what to eat. The computer assists the user in setting safe goals for desired weight loss and the time required to achieve the loss. The user follows menu and exercise programs suggested by the computer. The computer records and analyzes the user's food consumption, exercise and weight loss programs. Finally, the computer displays feedback information regarding the user's progress towards achieving the desired weight.
