  • Publication number: 20100304070
Abstract: A method of bonding a trim onto the edge of a frameless automotive glazing using an adhesive involves placing the glazing in a first position in which an edge of the glazing is free to receive a trim and locating a trim having adhesive applied to at least a portion thereof in contact with the glazing. The glazing is then pushed into a second position, deforming the glazing against the trim and the adhesive such that the trim bonds to the glazing. An apparatus for applying the trim is also described.

  • Publication number: 20090321977
Abstract: A method of providing the periphery of a glazing with a gasket by moulding using a mould having at least one moulding surface is disclosed. The method comprises forming the gasket from polyurethane precursors by contacting the glazing with the precursors and allowing the precursors to polymerise and harden. The moulding surface is provided with a releasable coating in an aqueous solution. The coating bonds with the polyurethane during polymerisation such that it is incorporated into the gasket, and prevents the polyurethane from coming into contact with the moulding surface to which it has been applied.

  • Patent number: 7628947
Abstract: An appendage (7) is molded onto a glazing profile (3) provided around the periphery of a pane of glass (2), the process comprising advancing a mold (20) into sealing contact with an appropriate part of the profile, introducing a predetermined quantity of polymer material (39) into a mold cavity (40), and allowing the polymer material to bond to the glazing profile. The pane of glass remains outside the mold cavity, and is preferably not contacted by the mold. The polymer material may be thermosetting or thermoplastic, and is preferably introduced into the mold cavity while the mold is open. The material may be poured if it is in a fluid condition, or, if it is thermoplastic, it may be introduced in the form of a preformed piece (50) which is superficially melted to bond it to the glazing profile. The process is suitable for molding sharp corners onto extruded profiles on vehicle glazings (1).

  • Patent number: RE41715
Abstract: A glazing provided with an electric circuit includes an electrically conducting substrate and a terminal for making electrical connection thereto. The terminal is attached to the glazing by an adhesive, rather than solely by solder, and the electrical connection between the terminal and the substrate is provided by means other than, or additional to, physical contact between the terminal and the substrate. For instance, the adhesive may be electrically conducting, or a soldered joint may additionally be provided if the adhesive is electrically insulating, or of insufficient conductivity for the type of circuit in question. The adhesive may be pre-applied to the terminal, and may be a tack-free adhesive activated or cured by heat. The terminal may be in two parts, with the base part of a standardized design. The glazing is suitable for use in buildings, appliances or vehicles, especially automotive vehicles.
