  • Publication number: 20140083420
Abstract: A vaporizer includes a thermally conductive anesthetic container and a temperature sensor positioned in the container and in the liquid anesthetic. A breathing-gas delivery tube has a delivery end positioned in the liquid anesthetic at least about 5 mm beneath the top surface of the liquid anesthetic. A heater is positioned outside the container. Control circuitry is configured to receive signals from the temperature sensor and is connected to the heater in order to cause the heater to maintain the temperature of the anesthetic above a predetermined temperature. A method of vaporizing inhalation anesthetic is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20130284168
Abstract: Inhalant anesthetics are developed with a number of properties including rapid onset and recovery, controllability, and, ideally, a broad safety profile. The efficacy of these agents is measured by their ability to create anesthesia within the framework of the other desirable properties. The instant invention focuses on the dosage level where analgesia occurs but amnesia or lack of consciousness does not. In addition to identifying the dosage level where pain is sharply reduced or eliminated but awareness remains, a delivery system for safe and effective delivery of the agent is described.

  • Patent number: 8539994
Abstract: An apparatus and system for transferring a liquid, such as a liquid anesthetic, from a reservoir to a machine while minimizing the release of the liquid to the surrounding environment. The apparatus can include a frame member defining a frame passage extending from a first end of the frame member to a second end of the frame member and a nozzle connected to the frame member. The nozzle can be moveable between a first position and a second position relative to the frame member, and can define a plug member configured to block the second end of the frame passage when the nozzle is in the first position. The apparatus can further include a biasing member connected to the frame member and the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 8528550
Abstract: An apparatus and system for transferring a liquid, such as a liquid anesthetic, from a reservoir to a machine while minimizing the release of the liquid to the surrounding environment. The apparatus can include a first component having a through-hole, and a second component having an aperture, a support member extending into the aperture having a protrusion configured to be capable of sealing the through-hole, wherein a fluid in the reservoir may exit the reservoir by way of the through-hole and the aperture, wherein twisting the first component and second component relative to each other causes the protrusion to seal or unseal the through-hole thereby allowing or preventing the flow of fluid. A portion of the exterior surface of the second component can have a polygonal shape.

  • Publication number: 20130098498
Abstract: The present invention may be embodied as a device for selectively opening or closing an anesthetic reservoir, the device having a first component adaptable to a reservoir and a second component adaptable to a vaporizer. The first component may have a base, a nozzle, and a through-hole. The second component may have a support member with a knob for engaging the through-hole of the first component and preventing liquid from flowing from the through-hole. The first and second components may be threaded to engage with each other such that when the components are twisted relative to each other, the knob may move toward or away from the through-hole to prevent or allow liquid flow.
