Abstract: A protective garment for protecting a part of an extremity such as a shin or knee from injury due to impact, comprising a protective body of impact-absorbing material encased in a band of fabric for holding the protective body substantially adjacent to the part of the extremity thereby protecting it from injury.

Abstract: A pair of protective undershorts for absorbing shock and protecting the hips of the wearer against the shock is disclosed. The undershorts include a pair of large pockets on the inside over the hips, and protective pads in the pockets. Each of the pads extends round approximately ⅓ of the circumference of the wearer. The pads are of a rounded shape, with the upper edge slightly concave, and extend vertically from the hip-bone to below the enarthrodial joint of the hip. The pads are ⅛″ thick, and comprise closed-cell foam material with a density of 10.0 to 13.0 lbs/cu. ft., a compression resistance of 9.0 to 13.0 psi, and a tensile strength of at least 150 psi.

Abstract: A protective hat having shock absorptive and insulating properties includes a head-receiving member adapted to overlie and protect least the sides, top and rear of the head of a wearer. The head-receiving member includes a core of resilient shock absorbent polymeric foam material and a shell of textile fabric material wherein the shell is constructed and arranged to fully enclose and encapsulate the core so that the hat has a conventional appearance and surface texture. The core is provided with first and second core layers. The first core layer is formed of a substantially soft closed cell foam material having a thickness of about ⅛ to about ¾ inch. The second core layer is formed of a substantially hard closed foam material having a thickness of about ⅛ to about ⅜ inch. The core has spaced holes therethrough distributed over the surface of the core to facilitate ventilation of the concavity.

Abstract: A protective garment for being disposed against a body to absorb shock and protect selected regions of the body against the shock comprises a protective area for protecting against the shock a region of the body disposed adjacent the protective area and a nonprotective area for providing structural integrity to the garment while providing substantially little protection against the shock to a region of the body disposed against the nonprotective area of the garment. The protective area is adapted to be disposed on the side of the body only adjacent the enarthrodial joint of the hip and to be centered on the side of the body slightly below the level of the acetabulum of the pelvis and to extend upwardly and anteriorly to the front of the body and approximately centered over the acetabulum of the pelvis and to extend posteriorly to the rear of the body to the lower region of the gluteal muscles of the body.

Abstract: A protective hat for children and adults comprises a head-enveloping member constructed of a core of impact absorbent foam, encapsulated within a shell of textile fabric material, the textile fabric material providing the inner and outer surfaces of the hat. The core is so constructed as to provide for conformity to the shape of head of the wearer, and to allow for ventilation. The bulk and density of the foam core is such that in sizes for children, the hat provides significant buoyancy.

Abstract: Protective headgear for infants and young children comprises a head-enveloping member having the appearance of a conventional hat, but constructed of a core of impact absorbent foam, encapsulated within a shell of textile fabric material, the textile fabric material providing the inner and outer surfaces of the garment.
