  • Patent number: 9404275
Abstract: A binding wire twisting apparatus for tying reinforcing bars. A motor rotates a shaft upon which a member reciprocates from a rearward to a forward position. The apparatus includes opposed fingers with opposed channels for fed binding wire. When in the rearward position, the member drives a wire feeding unit that feeds binding wire though the fingers and around the reinforcing bars. When the leading end of the fed wire impacts an actuator of a four-way valve, a pneumatic cylinder reciprocates the member from the first to the second position, and a cutter cuts the wire. Once in the second position, gripping surfaces entrap and hold the ends of the wire, and the rotating member, while holding the ends of the wire between first and second grip pieces, twists and ties the wire around the reinforcing bars, and a torque-release clutch decouples the motor from the shaft.

  • Publication number: 20100116864
Abstract: A fastener applicator is disclosed which uses a rotating ramped cam to drive a staple or other fastener into a workpiece. The ramped cam rotates in a direction substantially parallel to the direction in which the fastener is driven into the workpiece. Optionally, the fastener applicator may also include a portion for holding caps and positioning a cap beneath each fastener before it is driven into the workpiece. A unique use of a sliding linkage allows for the coupling of the cap-positioning portion with the unique new fastener applicator or also with any standard existing fastener applicator.

  • Publication number: 20090308906
Abstract: A cap feeder for a fastener gun. The gun includes a footplate, a fastener magazine holding a supply of fasteners such as staples, a nose, an upright cap magazine for holding a stacked assembly of caps, a cap pusher mounted for reciprocation with respect to the footplate, and a pneumatic-powered driver for driving a fastener from the nose, through the cap while the cap is in a fastening position beneath the nose, and into a workpiece. The cap magazine is mounted proximate the nose. The cap feeder includes a reciprocator for moving the cap pusher. The cap feeder includes a grip finger mounted to the cap pusher and extending beyond a cap-engaging portion of the cap pusher. The grip finger extends under an edge of the cap and engages the underside of the cap. The reciprocator preferably includes a piston pneumatically coupled to a piston of the driver.

  • Publication number: 20080173690
Abstract: A manual slap hammer having a staple magazine, a stapler body, a cap magazine, and a cap feeder. The cap feeder has a footplate mounted to the slap hammer, a cap pusher mounted for reciprocation with respect to the footplate, and a linkage operably connecting the cap pusher to a forward end of the stapler body. When the slap hammer strikes a workpiece, the forward end of the stapler body moves downwardly by inertia toward the forward end of the staple magazine, such that the linkage moves the cap pusher to a first position. As the forward end of the stapler body moves away from the staple magazine following stapling, the linkage moves the cap pusher to a second position, thereby causing the next cap to be moved into stapling position.

  • Publication number: 20070095875
Abstract: A compact single-blow pneumatic nailing tool for installing metal joist hangers and metal plates in wood-constructed houses. A lower nosepiece reciprocates with respect to an upper nosepiece, and, as the lower nosepiece reciprocates, an attached nail magazine moves jointly therewith. A safety linkage connected to the magazine engages a trigger lever and permits the tool to be fired only when the lower nosepiece is pressed against the workpiece. The tool does not need a guide tip or elaborate safety to guide a nail into a hole in the workpiece, and does not have a vision-blocking safety mechanism on the tip of the nose. The tip of the nail sticks out of the nose of the tool, facilitating placement into a hole in the workpiece.

  • Publication number: 20060251497
Abstract: A staple or nail gun assembly includes a staple or nail gun, a cap feeding device and a cap having a peripheral rim disposed on its underside, a marginal edge on its upper side adjacent a central portion having the shape of a truncated cone. The staple or nail gun and the cap feeding device are generally disposed at opposite ends of the handle of the staple or nail gun. The cap feeding device includes a base, a cap container and a shuttle, and feeds caps sequentially as they are affixed by the gun. The caps are coaxially stacked by means of a coaxial plastic cord or wire with retaining means at the respective ends or in a tubular container with a flanged end. The caps may also be stacked on a rod or held together by melting.

  • Patent number: 6837412
Abstract: A construction tool and method of use for affixing holding cap washers to roofing paper and building wrap tar paper. The tool is a combination of a fastener-driving gun together with a feeding magazine holding a clip of plastic cap washers to be affixed, and the feed magazine feeds successive cap washers under the nose of the fastener-driving gun so that fasteners, such as nails or staples, can penetrate the cap washer and hold down the roofing paper or building wrap tar paper. As the cap approaches the nose of the gun, the cap feeder flips the cap ninety degrees along an axis transverse to the feed direction. A shortened shuttle is used with a spring arm holding one edge of the leading cap in the magazine and the rearward portion of the shuttle holding the other edge of the leading cap.

Abstract: A staple or nail gun assembly includes a staple or nail gun, a cap feeding device and a cap having a peripheral rim disposed on its underside, a marginal edge on its upper side adjacent a central portion having the shape of a truncated cone. The staple or mail gun and the cap feeding device are generally disposed at opposite ends of the handle of the staple or nail gun. The cap feeding device includes a base, a cap container and a shuttle. The base has a cap feeding chamber and-a cap holding chamber and a channel connecting the two chambers. The container is used to store staple or nail caps and to feed the caps to the cap feeding chamber of the base, one cap at a time. The shuttle is operatively associated with the channel of the base to move a cap at the cap feeding chamber towards the cap holding chamber through the channel by a distance equal to the diameter of the cap.
