Patents Assigned to Power Tool Holders Incorporated
  • Patent number: 6834864
Abstract: A chuck for use with a manual or powered driver having a drive shaft, the chuck including a body having a nose section and a tail section, the tail section configured to rotate with a drive shaft of a driver and the nose section having an axial bore formed therein, plurality of jaws disposed within the body in communication with the bore, each of the jaws having a jaw face formed thereon for engagement with a tool shaft, and a visual indicator disposed on the body and including a surface on which is defined a visual indicia that is in operative communication with the jaws so that movement of the jaws to a predetermined position with respect to the bore exposes the indicia to view from outside the chuck and so that movement of the jaws from the predetermined position blocks the indicia from view from outside the chuck.

  • Patent number: 6832764
Abstract: A chuck for use with a manual or powered driver having a housing and a rotatable drive shaft extending therefrom is provided. The chuck includes a generally cylindrical body member having a nose section and a tail section. Each of a plurality of jaws is slidably positioned in one of a plurality of angularly disposed passageways in the body. Each jaw has a jaw face formed on one side thereof and threads formed on the opposite side thereof. A nut is rotatably mounted on the body in engagement with the jaw threads so that rotation of the nut moves the jaws axially within the passageways. A locking member, in a first axial position, is rotatable with respect to the driver housing. In a second axial position, it operatively engages the housing and the nut so that the locking member is rotationally held to the housing and the nut so that the nut is rotationally held to the housing. The locking member is axially reciprocal between the first axial position and the second axial position.

  • Patent number: 6722668
Abstract: A chuck includes a driver disposed on a chuck body and in engagement with the jaws so that at least one of rotation and axial movement of the driver with respect to the body opens or closes the jaws. A first detent is disposed in the body in communication with the jaws. At least one of the jaws defines a catch at a predetermined position so that the catch engages the first detent when the jaws are at a predetermined position on the body with respect to a chuck bore.

  • Patent number: 6688610
Abstract: A chuck includes a generally cylindrical body and a plurality of jaws reciprocally disposed in the body in communication with a central bore in the body. A first detent extends radially into the central bore and is releasable in a radially outward direction. Upon insertion of an elongated tool shaft having a polygonal cross section into the bore so that a groove in the tool shaft is aligned with the first detent, the first detent engages the groove and axially retains the tool shaft. Upon movement of the jaws so that the jaw faces engage flat sides of the tool shaft, the jaws rotationally retain the tool shaft.

  • Patent number: 6669207
Abstract: A chuck for a manual or powered driver having a rotatable driveshaft includes a body having a front section and a rear section. A plurality of jaws are operatively associated with the body, and the jaws are adapted to engage a tool to be utilized by the driver. The body's rear section includes serrations extending outwardly therefrom. A sleeve member is pressed onto the serrations whereby the serrations dig into the sleeve to at least assist in rotationally securing the sleeve to the body.

  • Patent number: 6648342
Abstract: A chuck includes a generally cylindrical body having a nose section and a tail section. A plurality of jaws are movably disposed with respect to the body to and away from the chuck's axial bore. A generally cylindrical sleeve is in driving communication with the jaws. The sleeve engages the body or the jaws by a first set of interengaged threads so that relative rotation between the first threads drives the jaws toward or away from the chuck axis. The sleeve engages the body or the jaws by a second set of interengaged threads so that relative rotation between the second threads drives the jaws toward or away from the chuck axis. The first thread set defines a first pitch so that when the jaws close, the first threads rotationally lock in the closing direction. The second thread set defines a second pitch that is higher than the first pitch so that when the jaws close, the second threads are relatively rotatable in the closing direction.

  • Patent number: 6616147
Abstract: A chuck includes a generally cylindrical body member having a forward section and a rearward section. The rearward section is configured to mate with a manual or powered driver. A plurality of angularly disposed passageways is formed in the forward section of the body and intersect an axial bore formed therein. The body defines a ledge portion about its outer circumference and a front face transverse to the longitudinal body axis. One of a plurality of jaws is slidably positioned in each passageway. A nut is rotatably mounted to the body rearward of the ledge portion so as to engage the jaws. A generally cylindrical sleeve engages the nut and includes a flexible protrusion extending axially rearward from an inner circumferential surface of the sleeve proximate the sleeve forward end. The protrusion has a tab portion disposed rearward of the ledge portion and projecting radially inward of the outer circumference of the ledge portion to prevent forward axial movement of the sleeve with respect to the body.
