Abstract: Polyurethane prepolymers having non-linear short chain diols and/or soft diisocyanates incorporated into the backbone are used to provide cured polyurethane coatings having a high hard segment content and low haze. The polyurethane prepolymers can also be used to improve the dispersion of filler in cured polyurethane compositions having a high filler loading. Cured coatings prepared from the two-part polyurethane systems meet the requirements for aerospace applications.
Abstract: Adhesion-promoting compositions and the use of the adhesion-promoting compositions to provide adhesion-promoting interlayers to enhance adhesion between adjoining layers of sulfur-containing sealants are disclosed. In repair applications, the adhesion-promoting compositions can enhance the adhesion of an overlying radiation-curable sulfur-containing sealant to a damaged or aged sulfur-containing sealant.

Abstract: Sealant dispensing cartridge assemblies including radially expandable collets are disclosed. A plunger head assembly includes a ram head attached to a plunger rod. As the plunger rod is advanced into the sealant cartridge, the ram head presses against a rear side of a movable plunger against an opposing force created by a sealant contained in the cartridge on a front side of the plunger. As the plunger rod is further advanced, the collet contacts the ram head and radially expands against the inner sidewall of the plunger. The resulting radial force presses the sidewall of the plunger against the inner surface of the cartridge to thereby reduce or prevent unwanted leakage of the sealant around the plunger.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a curable film-forming composition comprising: (a) a curing agent comprising reactive isocyanate functional groups; (b) a film-forming compound comprising functional groups reactive with the reactive isocyanate functional groups in (a); (c) a photo-latent catalyst; (d) a beta-diketone having a flash point higher than 60 C (140 F); and (e) a beta-diketone having a flash point lower than or equal to 60 C (140 F). The invention is further directed to methods of controlling the rate of cure and increasing the wet-edge time of a curable film-forming composition comprising an isocyanate functional curing agent, by adding to the curable film-forming composition a catalyst component comprising: (i) a photo-latent catalyst; (ii) a beta-diketone having a flash point higher than 60 C (140 F); and (iii) a beta-diketone having a flash point lower than or equal to 60 C (140 F).
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for treating an anodized metal substrate, including contacting at least a portion of the substrate surface with a sealing composition having a pH of 9.5 to 12.5 and comprising a lithium metal cation. Also disclosed is a system that includes a sealing composition having a pH of 9.5 to 12.5 and comprising a lithium metal cation and an aqueous composition for contacting a surface of the metal substrate following contacting with the sealing composition. Also disclosed are substrates treated with the system and method.

Abstract: Compositions that are resistant to hydraulic fluid and aviation fuel contain sulfur-containing prepolymers and solvent-resistant organic fillers. The compositions are useful in aerospace sealant applications.
Abstract: Isocyanate-terminated chain-extended polythioether prepolymers, compositions thereof, and methods of use thereof are disclosed. The isocyanate-terminated chain-extended polythioether prepolymers are useful in sprayable coatings and sealants and especially sprayable coatings and sealants having a high filler content.
Abstract: Adducts and prepolymers comprising pendent alkyl groups are disclosed. Polythiol adducts prepared by reacting a polythiol with a ketone and urethane-extended polythiol adducts. The polythiol adducts can be terminated with isocyanate groups. Compositions comprising the isocyanate-terminated polythiol adducts, isocyanate-terminated sulfur-containing prepolymers, and diisocyanates can be combined with polyamine or polyepoxide curing agents to provide curable compositions. Cured compositions are suitable for aerospace coating and sealant applications. The compositions can also include a low specific gravity filler and, when cured, meet the requirements of aerospace sealant applications.
Abstract: Photocurable adhesion-promoting compositions containing organic titanates and/or organic zirconates and partially reacted alkoxysilanes and the use of the photocurable adhesion-promoting compositions to provide adhesion between metal substrates and an overlying radiation-cured sealant are disclosed.

Abstract: Dual cure compositions include a combination of an organoborane complex and a radical oxidizing agent as co-catalysts. The compositions are curable under dark conditions and can be used to catalyze thiol-ene reactions. The compositions are useful as sealants.
Abstract: Chemically resistant sealant compositions include high equivalent weight sulfur-containing prepolymers. Upon exposure to chemicals the properties of sealants prepared using the prepolymers exhibit excellent fuel and phosphate ester resistance.
Abstract: Coating systems are used to visually hide low-profile surface features and to establish the optical properties of high profile surface features. The coating systems are useful in hiding build lines on the surface of articles fabricated using three-dimensional printing. Using the coating systems, the optical properties of intentional surface features such as patterns and textures can be modified to achieve a desired optical effect.
