Abstract: An assembly includes an outer container. The outer container has a top rim defining a mouth of the outer container, and the outer container defines a side opening in a wall thereof. The assembly also includes an interior container. The interior container includes a bag engaging member. The interior container is located within the outer container such that the engaging member covers the side opening in the outer container. The bag engaging member is configured to receive and retain a pliable liner that is disposed within the interior container. The bag engaging member is an insert that is located within an opening in a wall of the interior container or, alternatively, is formed in a wall of the interior container.

Abstract: An insert for placement in an opening of a trashcan assembly includes a plurality of resilient, flexible fingers that define a passageway and that are configured to receive and retain a portion of a pliable liner that is extended through the passageway. The insert may be round or elliptical. The fingers define an open space there between in the shape of an “X”. Furthermore, each finger may include a portion thereof that extends in a first direction and then curves back to extend in a generally opposite direction. In this regard, each finger may be “L” shaped, “J” shaped, or “T” shaped. The insert further may include a circumferentially extending channel that fully encircles a circumferential periphery of the insert. Each finger is resilient and flexible and returns to an initial position after being deflected when a portion of a liner is inserted through the passageway.

The attachment member includes at least one bag engaging member. The liner engaging portion includes an aperture and a plurality of fingers extending away from the aperture. A portion of the liner extends through the aperture of the liner engaging portion and is disposed in frictional engagement with the fingers. Only the portion of the liner extending through the aperture secures the liner from slipping into the trashcan container.

A method of making the trashcan includes injection molding the container and the retention member separately or, alternatively, together.
