    Abstract: An athletic shoe, particularly a soccer shoe, with extreme flexibility in the ball area and, preferably, in the mid-foot joint area as well, is achieved by the provision or ribs in these areas on the contact side of the sole as well as on the insole side. The ribs form a continuous undulating band consisting of wave crests and valleys, and may be formed as a unitary part of the sole or may be a separate component made integral with the sole during manufacture thereof, such as by the sole material being injected or case around them.
