Patent number: 5244211Abstract: A golf club comprising an elongated shaft with a lower end for attachment of the club head. The club head comprises a hosel portion for connection of the head to the shaft end, and a main body portion which comprises an enclosed outer wall and a hollow interior chamber. The club further involves the presence of molded material which fills the hollow chamber of the head, this molded material comprising a flexible synthetic plastic foam which bonds to the inner wall surfaces. The manufacturing method involves the filling of the chamber with the foam whereby the foam forms within the chamber. This method may involve the mixing of an aromatic isocyanate with a polyether polyol prior to introduction of the mixture into the chamber. The mixture, which forms a flexible polyurethane foam with the desired bonding characteristics, may be introduced through an axial bore defined by the hosel which opens into the interior of the chamber. The method is preferably applied to the manufacture of metal club heads.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1992Date of Patent: September 14, 1993Assignee: Ram Golf CorporationInventor: Robert F. Lukasiewicz

Patent number: 5201522Abstract: A golf ball construction wherein the dimples are distributed over the surfaces of the ball to minimize the appearance and effect of an unbroken seam line and to enhance the aerodynamic properties of the ball. The arrangement of the dimples includes a pole dimple at each pole, a pentagon formation of dimples in each hemisphere of the ball comprising five equally-spaced lines of dimples radiating outwardly from the pole dimple to thereby define five triangular areas of dimples in the pentagon formation, the bases of the triangular areas comprising five interconnected lines of dimples equally spaced from the pole dimple. Five equally spaced additional triangular areas are formed in each hemisphere, each having a base on the equator of the ball, and a plurality of additional dimples are then disposed in a non-uniform fashion about the remaining surface of the ball. The arrangement of the non-uniformly placed dimples favors the placement of the dimples closer to the equator of the ball.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1991Date of Patent: April 13, 1993Assignee: Ram Golf CorporationInventors: Terence W. Pocklington, William L. Crausby

Patent number: 5197740Abstract: An novel golf ball is disclosed having an improved cover composition comprising a blend of a first copolymer of an olefin and a sodium salt of an unsaturated carboxylic acid, a second copolymer of an olefin and a zinc salt of an unsaturated carboxylic acid, and a third copolymer of an olefin and a lithium salt of an unsaturated carboxylic acid. The novel golf balls having the improved cover compositions exhibit improved playing properties.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1990Date of Patent: March 30, 1993Assignee: Ram Golf CorporationInventors: Terence W. Pocklington, Terry R. Balch

Patent number: 4932664Abstract: A golf ball construction wherein the dimples are evenly distributed over the surface to minimize the appearance and effect of an unbroken seam line. The dimples are arranged in three different patterns comprising a pentagon formation at each of the poles, five equally-spaced trapezoid formations in each hemisphere located between the pentagon pattern and the equator, and five equally-spaced triangular formations interposed between the trapezoid formations. The diameter of the dimples is also controlled to maintain the uniformity of the spacing.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1989Date of Patent: June 12, 1990Assignee: Ram Golf CorporationInventors: Terence W. Pocklington, William L. Crausby

Patent number: 4878672Abstract: A fitting golf club for determining the flexibility of a golf club shaft, the club including an elongated shaft having one shaft end portion adapted to be grasped in a person's hands and an opposite shaft end portion with a golf club head attached. An indicia bearing screw head is adjustable between a plurality of different positions. Mechanisms associated with the adjustable head are operative responsive to the centrifugal force applied upon swinging of the fitting golf club. The mechanisms include a weight pivotally mounted within the head on an axis perpendicular to the shaft and parallel with the swing direction, the weight being movable between an armed position adjacent the upper side of said head to a released position adjacent the lower side of said head. The optimum shaft flexibility for the person being tested is determined by the position of adjustment of the adjustable head when compared with the time of release of the weight.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 1988Date of Patent: November 7, 1989Assignee: Ram Golf CorporationInventor: Robert F.
