Patent number: 6247670Abstract: An active flaperon assembly for a wing includes a sheet of flexible material deployed near an intersection between a primary lift surface of a wing and the surface of a flap. The sheet is mechanically linked to the flap such that it is withdrawn from and extended into the air flow over the wing, the extent of projection varying as a function of the downward deflection of the flap. An actuator generates mechanical oscillations in the sheet.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1999Date of Patent: June 19, 2001Assignee: Ramot University Authority for Applied Research and Industrial Development LtdInventors: Shaul Eliahou-Niv, Israel Wygnanski

Patent number: 6166833Abstract: A method for encoding zero-order phase-only holograms, and the holograms so encoded. The amplitude and phase of each point of a discrete mathematical transform, such as a Fourier transform, of an image to be encoded, are encoded as regions of a corresponding pixel of a transparent filter, with suitably selected fractional areas and optical path lengths. The various optical path lengths may be created by manipulating the filter's index of refraction, or by manipulating the thickness of the filter, preferably by etching. Various encoding schemes are presented, appropriate to etching systems with low lateral resolution, to etching systems with high lateral resolution but depth resolution limited to a discrete number of depths, and to etching systems with limited resolution both laterally and in depth.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2000Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Ramot University Authority for Applied Research & Industrial Development Ltd.Inventors: David Mendlovic, Emanuel Marom, Naim Konforti, Zeev Zalevsky, Gal Shabtay

Patent number: 6163699Abstract: A method of allocating access to a shared media network, with specific application to tracking and paging mobile users of a cellular telephone network. Each cell of the network broadcasts a load factor .alpha., representative of the load on the cell's control channel. Each user in a cell determines a registration priority for itself, and also a registration threshold based on .alpha.. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, each user is assigned a base threshold time T, and each user in a cell computes a registration threshold time T', based on T and .alpha., and registers its location with the network if the last such registration was longer ago than T'. Users are paged only in cells to which they could have traveled since their most recent location updates.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1997Date of Patent: December 19, 2000Assignee: Ramot University Authority for Applied Research and Industrial Development Ltd.Inventors: Zohar Naor, Hanoch Levy

Patent number: 6144199Abstract: A method for depicting the anatomy and quantitative tissue strain of a biological tissue. A spatially resolved, double quantum filtered, nuclear magnetic resonance frequency spectrum is acquired from either .sup.1 H or .sup.2 H nuclei in the tissue. Values in the time domain or frequency domain representations of the free induction decay signal are mapped in 2 spatial dimensions so as to selectively depict histological layers of the tissue anatomy. The residual quadrupolar or dipolar splitting is calculated from the free induction decay signal, and then correlated with a tissue strain value by utilizing a known formula describing the correlation between residual quadrupolar or dipolar splitting and tissue strain. The tissue strain value is then mapped in two spatial dimensions.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1997Date of Patent: November 7, 2000Assignee: Ramot University Authority for Applied Research and Industrial Development Ltd.Inventors: Yehuda Sharf, Gil Navon, Uzi Eliav, Liat Tsoref
