Patent number: 4893479Abstract: A compressor drive system that includes a thermostat producing a signal indicating the measured air temperature, a modulation control circuit connected to the thermostat to produce a motor drive signal from the temperature signal and which is output to a motor drive switching bridge circuit. The motor drive switching bridge circuit is connected to a rectifier that converts single phase alternating current to direct current. The switching bridge uses the motor drive signal from the modulation control circuit and the rectifier output to produce multiphase power including a speed control signal imposed on the power for regulating speed. A motor connected to drive a compressor is included. The motor is powered by the motor drive switching bridge circuit multiphase power output. The speed of the motor is controlled as a function of the temperature signal.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1988Date of Patent: January 16, 1990Assignee: Ranco Electronics DivisionInventors: Jimmie D. Patent number: 4777350Abstract: A heater including a sensing device for sensing an ambient temperature, a temperature input device for providing a user selectable input temperature both connected to a first circuit to control the heater. The first control circuit includes positive feedback and negative feedback to electrically define a temperature range. The first circuit provides an on/off time duty cycle output wherein the on to off time of the duty cycle is relative to the relationship between the temperature range and the sensed ambient temperature. A second circuit is connected to receive the duty cycle output from the first circuit and is further connected to an alternating current power source to provide a second output signal during the zero crossing of the alternating current power source and when the duty cycle output is present. A driver circuit is connected to receive this second signal and activates the heater when the second signal is active by providing a third signal to a triac which regulates power to the heater.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 1984Date of Patent: October 11, 1988Assignee: Ranco Electronics DivisionInventors: Charles Crocket, Merle Bengston

Patent number: 4747009Abstract: An air conditioner clutch control device includes a resistive type temperature sensor, connected to power dividers for providing a threshold voltage and a trigger voltage for first and second comparators. Resistor type power dividers provide first and second reference voltages to the comparators. Logic circuits are attached to the comparators for providing first and second state signals. Thus, when the temperature exceeds the first reference the first state is produced to turn on the air conditioner; when the temperature falls below the second reference, the second state is produced to turn off the air conditioner. A zener diode is provided to protect the logic circuits from transients in the battery source of power and from a reversal in polarity. A coil of a relay switch is operated by the first and second states to close a switch to energize a coil of a relay switch of an air conditioner's compressor.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1986Date of Patent: May 24, 1988Assignee: Ranco Electronics DivisionInventors: Jimmie D. Patent number: 4675540Abstract: An electrical switch including a toggle lever pivotally mounted to a switch housing with the toggle lever connected to a slide in a manner to provide longitudinal motion to the slide between a first and second end positions when the toggle lever is pivoted. The slide includes a first conductor, which when the slide is at the first end position, maintains contact with a first conductive track and, when the slide is at the second end position, provides an electrical conduction path between the first conductive track and a second node. When the slide is located between the first and second end positions, the first conductor provides an electrical conduction path between the first conductive track and a third node. The first conductor is also in contact with a second conductor within the slide and the second conductor is in sliding contact with a circuit contained upon a substrate which is further connected between the first and third conductive track and having an output connected to the second conductive track.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1985Date of Patent: June 23, 1987Assignee: Ranco Electronics DivisionInventors: Douglas E. Patent number: 4616485Abstract: A temperature controller for an air conditioner including a temperature sensor that provides an output temperature from the air conditioning device, and a temperature rate of change comparison circuit for providing an indication signal that the rate of change from the temperature sensor exceeds a predetermined reference rate of change indicating that the rate of temperature change from the air conditioner is less than a reference cooling rate. The indication signal from the temperature rate of change comparison circuit is input to a disabling means that disables the air conditioning device. In an embodiment, the rate of change comparison circuit is connected to the thermostat for the system to sample the air conditioning temperatures for comparison with the reference cooling rate.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1985Date of Patent: October 14, 1986Assignee: Ranco Electronics DivisionInventors: Jimmie D.
