  • Patent number: 8021508
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for manufacturing a panel containing wood fibers. The wood material is cut into strands having a thickness and a width perpendicular to the grain direction and a length parallel with the grain direction, the length being significantly greater with respect to the other dimensions. An adhesive is applied to the strands, the glued strands are formed into an assembly, wherein the strands are substantially parallel in the longitudinal direction, and the strands remaining substantially parallel in the longitudinal direction are extruded by applying a thrusting force substantially perpendicular with respect to the longitudinal direction of the strands.

  • Patent number: 7779875
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for peeling veneer from a log (2). Veneer (4) is peeled tangentially from the circumferential surface of a log rotated around its longitudinal axis under conditions determined by the distance (knife gap) between the knife (3) and the nose bar pressing the surface of the log immediately in front of the cutting point. The peeling knife as well as the nose bar is moved towards the rotation axis of the log corresponding the proceeding of the peeling. At the ending stage of the peeling, the distance between the peeling knife and the nose bar is reduced substantially in accordance with the thickness of the veneer being peeled.

  • Publication number: 20100060391
Abstract: The invention relates to a microwave waveguide element for matching a standard waveguide input port (31) to an enlarged waveguide output port (37). In the waveguide element, a plurality of intermediate waveguide segments (B-E) is cascaded in the propagation direction of the microwave energy to first split the waveguide element into two symmetrical waveguide branches (34,36:34?,36?) and then combine the branches at the output port (37). Thus, the width of the waveguide element is gradually enlarged and the input port is matched to the output port. The intermediate waveguide segments are preferably dimensioned such that respective characteristic impedances are approximately matched with each other for the fundamental mode.

  • Publication number: 20100059510
Abstract: In a microwave heating apparatus, the fundamental TE10 mode of the standard waveguide (5) having a standard rectangular cross-section is fed into an elongated heating cavity (2) having an enlarged rectangular cross-section in which the shorter side of the standard waveguide is enlarged to a length which can accommodate the desired width of a board (8) to be heated. A pair of lateral slots (25) is provided parallel in the opposite enlarged walls (11) of the heating cavity (2) to form a track for the board (8) to travel across the cavity. As the initially longer sidewall (11) of the standard waveguide is unchanged, the fundamental mode is not affected but the electric field is uniformly distributed along the width of the board (8) traversing the electric field and the cavity. As a result, wider products can be heated and a more uniform heating pattern can be achieved.

  • Publication number: 20090057980
Abstract: The invention concerns an apparatus for forward transferring sheet-like objects from a stack, said apparatus including separate lifting elements gripping by suction to the upper surface of the sheet-like object situated top-most on the stack. The gripping elements are positioned in a row extending over the stack of the sheet-like objects in transversal direction with respect to the forward direction of the sheet-like object. The suction effect of the lifting elements is individually controlled by means of a control device including a light source creating a substantially line-shaped illumination pattern over the top of the stack. The illumination of the light source is focused substantially parallel to the lifting element row, at an inclined angle to the surface plane of the sheet stack. Camera means for observing the illumination pattern forwards information about the uniformity of the uppermost layer of the stack for controlling the gripping elements.

  • Publication number: 20080072999
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for recovering partial sized veneer sheets in the veneer production. A veneer sheeting peeled from a log is monitored with a machine vision device for detecting and localizing defects and defining corresponding partial sized sheet sections in the veneer sheeting. The partial sized sections of the veneer sheeting are evaluated for sound veneer in veneer lengths of a multiple of 2?+n?. The partial sized veneer sheets are cut as sound veneer sections in the longitudinal and transversal direction of the veneer sheeting controlled on the evaluation of value factors of the sections.

  • Patent number: 7347234
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for optimizing the veneer yield in veneer peeling. The contour of the log to be peeled is determined and the peeling axes at the ends of the log are determined by simulating the veneer yield. The desired veneer yield is determined at least as two veneer products having their own grades. These desired veneer products serve as basic values for the optimizing calculation. The maximum grade of the veneer yield is calculated, based on the dimensions and grades of the veneer products, as well as by iterating the places of the peeling axes and simulating the peeling process. When the peeling axes of the log ends giving the maximum grade yield have been found, the log is placed according to these peeling axes in the lathe and peeled into a veneer web to be cut with a clipper into said desired veneer products.
