  • Patent number: 5378200
Abstract: A cone disc transmission is presented which is infinitely adjustable and includes the production of axial pressure forces of the cone discs on pulling member rotating between these cone discs via hydraulic tensioning member. The tensioning member, which are arranged on the transmission shafts, each axially influence one of the cone discs which are displaceably arranged on the respective transmission shaft. By way of a control valve, the tensioning member and the pressure medium conduits connected thereto are charged by a pressure medium which is supplied by a pump. A torque disposed on the drive shaft of the transmission in the reflux of the control valve throttles the reflux of the pressure medium as a result of the torque-dependent movement of two valve members relative to one another and as a function of the load and thus determines the basic pressure of the system.

  • Patent number: 5279523
Abstract: An infinitely variable cone disc transmission is disclosed in which the contact pressure forces are generated fully hydraulically and in which the contact pressure level is set either solely by way of a torque sensor that is disposed on the drive shaft and constitutes a pressure medium throttle that is adjustable as a function of the load, or in which a pressurizing valve preceding this torque sensor and controlled as a function of the transmission ratio is employed to additionally effect throttling as a function of the transmission ratio.

  • Patent number: 5045028
Abstract: A cone disk transmission, particularly for motor vehicles, has an infinitely settable and variable ratio. The transmission uses two pairs of cone disks (2, 3), connected by a coupling belt or chain (24). On cone disk of each pair is axially displaceable, and selectively positionable against the traction element running between the cone pairs by a hydraulic positioning system, for generating engagement or gripping or clamping forces. The positioning pressure is controlled by pressure fluid derived from a spool valve (10). Torque sensors (16, 17) located on the transmission shafts throttle return flow of hydraulic pressure fluid from the control valve, as a function of load. In accordance with the invention, the torque sensors are immediately activated as a function of the intended operating state of the transmission, that is, the direction of transfer of power between the pairs of cone disks, by coupling both of the torque sensors to a transfer valve (FIG.

  • Patent number: 4942786
Abstract: To provide for rapid response of a fluid pressure element pressing conical disks towards each other, to prevent slippage of a belt (25) between the conical faces of the conical disks (3, 3', 4, 4') upon abrupt changes in torque being transmitted to the driving shaft (1; 51, 52); additional fluid supply lines (23, 24; 73, 74) with check valves therein (21, 22; 71, 72) are connected between the torque sensor (19; 69, 70) and the connecting line (11, 12; 61, 62) extending between a control valve (10; 50) and the fluid pressure arrangement, typically a cylinder-piston arrangement (5, 7, 8, 6, 9), providing axial pressure of the movable one of the conical disks, the check valves having a fluid path direction from the pressure source--torque sensor line (18; 65, 75, 218) to the control valve (10, 50)--fluid pressure arrangement line (11, 12; 61, 62) and bypassing the control valve (10; 50).

  • Patent number: 4927404
Abstract: The link chain has links which are coupled together by connecting joint elements (2, 3), formed with end surfaces which transfer frictional forces between a cone disk and the chain. A plurality of links are coupled to these connecting joint elements which form an essentially uniform overall cross section, transferring force between the connecting joint elements and the links. In order to provide for uniform force transfer, some of the links (4, 5, 6, 6', 8, 9, 10) are strengthened with respect to others or "normal", usually interiorly located links (1, 8). The strengthening can be obtained by using higher strength material, making the links thicker or doubling link elements to form a double-thickness link.

  • Patent number: 4909778
Abstract: The link chain is formed of elongated links (2) connected transversely by connecting joints (4) which are formed by pairs of connecting joint elements (1). The connecting joint elements, in cross section, are somewhat crescent-shaped or bent, oval, and define joint engagement surfaces in the region of the terminal ends, for engagement with link engagement surfaces formed in apertures (5) of the link elements (2). The convex side of an inner link element (1) of the pair fits against the concave side of an outer link element of the pair, which, in turn, bears with its joint engagement against the link engagement surface of the aperture.

  • Patent number: 4813918
Abstract: A plate-link chain for infinitely adjustable cone pulley drives, the link pivot elements of which, joining the individual chain links embodied by plate packets, are embodied as thrust members is disclosed. The thrust members are inserted into recesses of the plate-links, and with their end faces they serve to transfer frictional force between friction wheels and the plate-link chain. The embodiment is such that the length of the thrust members of individual links, defined crosswise to the direction of travel of the plate-link chain varies in a non-periodic sequence over the length of the chain.

Abstract: To balance twisting torques acting on transmission chain pressure elements (11) located in an asymmetrical wedge zone between a friction disk (7,8) which has an essentially radially directed, plane face and a disk having a divergent, essentially conical engagement surface (14), the centers of curvature (17,18) of the friction surfaces (15,16) of the engagement elements are so positioned that the product of the engagement force components (20,21) acting parallel to the axes of rotation of the disks, and the radial spacing (a) of the contact points (19',23') at which the force components act is essentially equal to the product of the radially directed component (24) of the pulling force of the chain, when in operation, and the spacing (b') measured in a direction parallel to the respective shaft, of the contact point (23') of the pressure element with the disk having the substantially conical divergent engagement surface (14) from the center (C) of the pressure element, measured in its length direction.

  • Patent number: 4618338
Abstract: To reduce the noise level of chains connecting cone pulleys in variable ratio transmissions, in which chain links (1, 15, 43) are joined by rocker elements (3, 16, 44), frame bodies or frames elements (7, 8, 21, 22, 23, 30, 31, 32, 33, 46, 51, 64, 65) are positioned between adjacent hinge joints formed by the rocker elements, located transversely to the chain, the frame bodies having lateral engagement surfaces (11, 24, 25, 26, 55, 56, 57, 66, 67) located laterally adjacent to the sides of the outermost chain link elements for resilient frictional engagement with the facing surfaces of the cone pulleys (12, 40, 41) of the transmission, so that the transmission will be engaged by the engaging surfaces (45) of the rocker elements as well as the engagement surfaces of the frame bodies. The frame bodies are retained on the chain by force engagement with the chain link elements and/or the rocker elements.

  • Patent number: 4568317
Abstract: Fail-safe operation is insured by forming a camming surface on an axially extending camming element (19), axially and rotatably secured to the take-off shaft (2), the camming surface being in engagement with a camming projection (18, 36) formed on the piston (10) which is in driving engagement with one of the cone disks (6) on the take-up shaft, and rotatably coupled to the cone disk, the cone disk, normally, being hydraulically positioned with respect to an opposing cone disk (5) of a cone pair; upon failure of hydraulic pressure, relative circumferential displacement of the cone disk (6) and hence of the piston, will cause axial movement of the piston (10) and hence transfer of axial movement to the cone disk (6) to raise a transmission belt (7) to operate at the largest circumference of the cone transmission, thus permitting limp-home operation of a motor vehicle equipped with the transmission at slow speed, but without loss of driving torque.
