  • Publication number: 20040159314
Abstract: An apparatus for circulating a blowby gas to engine cylinders in an internal combustion engine, including a cylinder head cover including a first wall defining a first passage, and a first flange outwardly extending from the first wall, and a cylinder head including a second wall and a second flange cooperating with the first flange to form an abutting surface therebetween on which a second passage is arranged. The second passage is connected with the first passage and extending in a direction of a row of the engine cylinders. The second wall defines a plurality of third passages each having one end that is open to the second flange and communicated with the second passage and an opposite end open to an intake port of each of the engine cylinders.

  • Publication number: 20040154575
Abstract: An internal combustion engine includes a balancer housing, a balancer shaft having an eccentric weight portion and disposed within the balancer housing so as to be parallel with and rotatable in timed relation with a crankshaft, and a power transmitting mechanism that transmits rotation of the crankshaft to the balancer shaft, wherein the balancer shaft has an end portion protruding outward of the balancer housing, and wherein the end portion of the one balancer shaft is partially cut to have a flattened section that constitutes a device for positioning the balancer shaft in a predetermined rotational position. A method of assembling an internal combustion engine with a balancer shaft is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20040149267
Abstract: A constitution of protecting a fuel delivery tube of an engine, includes: 1) an engine body including: a) a cylinder head, and b) a ladder cam bracket defining an outer wall on a side section thereof, including: i) an outer frame, ii) an intake cam bracket, and iii) an exhaust cam bracket integrated with the outer frame and holding an exhaust cam shaft; 2) the fuel delivery tube disposed beside the engine body and extending in a direction substantially along a row of a cylinder; and 3) an intake manifold made of a material free from a metal. The outer wall of the ladder cam bracket is formed with a protrusion which protrudes toward a branch section of the intake manifold in such a manner as to prevent the branch section of the intake manifold from causing an interference with the fuel delivery tube.

  • Publication number: 20040149501
Abstract: A transmission control system for a hybrid vehicle is comprised of a hybrid transmission including two motor/generators and a controller connected to the hybrid transmission. The controller is arranged to change the torque control of the motor/generator under the torque control to the revolution speed control and to change the revolution speed control of the other motor/generator under the revolution speed control to the torque control, when one of the torque of the motor/generator under the revolution torque control and the revolution speed of the motor/generator under the torque control becomes saturated.

  • Publication number: 20040110592
Abstract: A hybrid transmission for variably producing a transmission ratio is comprised of first and second motor/generators and a differential mechanism constructed by two double-pinion planetary gearsets. The two double-pinion planetary gearsets are coaxially arranged and commonly employ common pinions. The differential mechanism includes at least four rotating members which are interlinked so that rotating conditions of all of the rotating members are determined when rotating conditions of two of the rotating members are determined. Four of the rotating members are connected to an input from a prime mover, an output to a driveline, first and second mover/generators, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20040077448
Abstract: In a hybrid transmission, input and output side motor/generators (MG1, MG2) and input and output portions (In, Out) are coupled to two sets of the differential units (G1, G2) in such a manner that, under a selection of a first predetermined gear ratio, in a revolution speed order, the input side motor/generator (MG1), the input portion (In) from a prime mover (engine), the output portion (Out) toward a vehicular drive system, and the output side motor/generator (MG2) are coupled to the respective revolvable elements of the two sets of the differential units (G1, G2) and the output side motor/generator is coupled to any one of the revolvable elements of the two sets of the differential units including those revolvable elements thereof which do not contribute to a revolution of the output portion.

  • Patent number: 6722126
Abstract: An exhaust arrangement for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine of a vehicle which has a row of cylinders. The arrangement includes an exhaust manifold including a branch portion having a plurality of branch pipes corresponding to the cylinders, a catalyst disposed downstream of the exhaust manifold, and an exhaust pipe connecting the exhaust manifold to the catalyst. The exhaust pipe defines an exhaust path having a bend. The bend includes a plane dividing an interior of the bend into equal halves. A partition divides the exhaust path into first and second exhaust passages coextending in a longitudinal direction of the exhaust pipe. The partition extends in the bend in alignment with the plane. An oxygen sensor is disposed at the bend of the exhaust pipe in alignment with the partition and projects into both of the first and second exhaust passages through a periphery of the partition.
