Abstract: An electronic device is configured to determine a location of a stylus with respect to a display screen dependent upon first and second timing signals. A change in state of a reference pixel cell is detected using a photodetector located in close proximity to the reference pixel cell and a change in state of a pixel cell in proximity to the stylus, in response to a stylus photodetector signal received from a photodetector of the stylus. The location of the stylus with respect to the display screen is determined from the time difference between the change in state of the reference pixel cell and the change in state of the pixel cell in proximity to the stylus.

Abstract: A portable bridge device and methods for transmitting application data from the portable bridge device to one or more local devices of varying types, platforms and operating systems are described. In one embodiment, the method comprises establishing communication channels between the portable bridge device and first and second local devices, determining a platform or operating system of the local devices, and formatting, based on the determined platform or operating system, application data and transmitting the formatted application data to a portable bridge device interface module of the local devices via the communication channels. The portable bridge device may also establish a long-range communication channel to a remote computing device, and may operate as a gateway to a remote source of applications or resources. Operation of locally connected devices with the portable bridge device is not impacted by a temporary loss of connectivity between the portable bridge device and remote sources.

  • Publication number: 20140286407
Abstract: A system and method for resilient signal encoding provide for encoding a data signal to reduce bandwidth required to transmit the encoded signal while mitigating the impact of frames lost or corrupted during transmission. A first frame of the data signal is encoded as an independently decodable frame and is assigned as a reference frame. Subsequent frames of the data signal are encoded as different frames relative to the reference frame. The independently decodable frame and the difference frames are transmitted to a receiver. The receiver decodes the frames and sends an acknowledgement for one or more successfully decoded difference frames. When an acknowledgment is received, a corresponding data signal frame is assigned as the reference frame. Subsequent difference frames are encoded relative to the newly assigned reference frame.

Abstract: A mobile station in a communications system includes hardware and software stored on a tangible computer readable medium that, during operation, cause the mobile station to receive a timeslot assignment from a wireless network and operate based on the received timeslot assignment. The timeslot assignment may be based on whether a timing advance offset is used by the wireless network. The mobile station may also receive an indication from the wireless network, indicating whether a timing advance offset is used by the wireless network. The mobile station may subsequently operate based on the received indication.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for adapting how links are rendered in a presentation. In one example, the system and method adapt a text-based link in a presentation to a machine scannable code. An example system can identify a text-based link within a slide or frame to be rendered as part of a presentation, the text-based link pointing to a resource external to the presentation. The system further generates a non-text, machine-readable link corresponding to the text-based link, and inserts the non-text, machine-readable link into the slide at a location associated with the text-based link. Then the system can render the non-text, machine-readable link within the slide. A second method is disclosed for generating a digest of links in a presentation that is accessible via a single scannable code. A third method is disclosed for analyzing links to identify links for conversion to scannable codes.

Abstract: Both Bluetooth-compatible and Bluetooth Low Energy-compatible transceivers are selectively used when supporting wireless communications between two electronic communication devices such as a so-called smartphone and a hands-free accessory. During a first operating state the devices use Bluetooth and during a second operating state the devices use Bluetooth Low Energy. By one approach the first operating state correlates to when a first one of the devices is actively engaged in telephony and the second operating state correlates to when that first device is not actively engaged in telephony.
