Abstract: An electrodeless lamp has a gas containing chamber with a first electrode and a second electrode, each surrounded by a dielectric, within the gas chamber and an AC source coupled between the first and second electrodes. In another aspect, the electrodeless lamp has a gas containing chamber with a dielectric chamber wall, a first electrode extending along the dielectric chamber wall outside of the gas containing chamber, a wound second electrode surrounded by a dielectric within the gas chamber, and an AC source coupled between the first and second electrodes.
