A news provider generates a news item, creates a digitally signed version of the news item and packages them together with a digital certificate issued by a certificate authority containing the public key required to decrypt the digitally signed version. The package is posted to a server and is transmitted, or made available or transmission, over a public data network together with a computer program for verifying the news item. A receiving party receives, over the public data network, the package at a client device and is provided with means for launching, and if necessary first downloading, the verifying program. The verifying program uses the public key contained in the certificate to verify the digitally signed news item.

Because analytic formulas may be represented as data in some table or tables, analytics can be added, deleted or modified without having to make changes to the analytic engine's source code. The analytic engine may be implemented in some relational language, such as a dialect of SQL, to manipulate and compute the analytic formulas stored in the database.

High-resolution digital image files containing metadata are uploaded onto a hub from computers local to one or more photographers at an event. Lower-resolution copies of the digital images are made and are sent over the Internet to a web server. The web server notifies an editor that the lower-resolution images are available. The editor views the lower-resolution copies over the Internet, selects the images to be used, and using image-processing software, sets editing instructions to be applied to the image. Once the selected image is edited in accordance with the editor's instructions, the edited image is sent to a processor for final editing and application of additional metadata.
