Patents Assigned to Riverwood Natural Resources Corporation
  • Patent number: 5201412
Abstract: A paperboard clip-type carrier especially suited for carrying beverage cans. The top panel comprises overlapped inner and outer top panel flaps which provide double thickness in the handle area. Support edges in reinforcement sections connected to the bottom panel and the side panels engage the underside of the can chimes to support them, and stress relief score lines are provided to distribute stresses from the support edges through the reinforcement sections. The side panel has cutouts through which the can chimes can protrude, allowing the side panels to be positioned tightly against the cans to increase the strength of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 5119985
Abstract: An enclosed carrier having spaced handle openings in the top panel. The top panel is formed from two overlapping flaps, each of which has a folded-over edge portion adhered to itself. The folded-over edge portions overlie each other to form the strap portion of the handle extending between the handle openings, with the folds of the edge portions being aligned with the inner edges of the handle openings. In one embodiment the handle strap comprises a four-ply layer and in another embodiment it comprises a three-ply layer. The folded-over edge portions of the top flaps may be weakened at their intersection with the fold lines of end panel flaps to enable the end panel flaps to be readily folded into place.

  • Patent number: 5094347
Abstract: Integral retaining means in an open-ended wrap-around carrier for preventing articles such as bottles from escaping the carrier through the open end. The bottom panel is comprised of inner and outer mechanically connected flaps. The outer bottom panel flap contains a retainer flap at each end connected along a fold line which is generally parallel to the open end edge of the bottom panel. The retainer flaps extend up into the interior of the carrier through openings in the inner bottom panel flap. The retainer flap is folded along converging fold lines so that it forms a retainer finger engaging the outer portions of the end bottles in two adjacent rows of bottles in the carrier.

  • Patent number: 5090616
Abstract: A modified glue flap of a folding carton blank for preventing glue from being squeezed out during the step of adhering the glue flap to the opposite end panel. The face of the glue flap engaged by the glue back-up wheel includes a protrusion near the trailing edge of the flap. Engagement of the protrusion by the back-up wheel causes the glue wheel to skip the trailing area of the flap. The absence of glue in this area prevents glue from being squeezed out when sealing pressure is subsequently applied to the glue flap and the opposite end panel. The protrusion may take the form of an embossed ridge, forming a channel on the opposite side of the protrusion for receiving any excess glue which would have been squeezed out.
