Abstract: A mounting apparatus for pipes and the method which enables the reliable attachment of pipes while offering corrosion protection. The mounting apparatus includes a plurality of fused together bands having a thermoplastic coating. Each band includes a plurality of adjacently disposed strings of various load-carrying filaments. The bands each have a thermoplastic coating thereby preventing corrosion where the thermoplastic surface lies against the pipe. By providing strings composed of fibers having different characteristics the bands are particularly tailored to a desired mounting application.
Abstract: In order to enhance the light output from a side illuminating optical structure comprising a plurality of elongate optical fibers, means is provided for ensuring a permanent compressive stress in the optical structure, for example a permanent compressive stress in the radial direction and/or in the axial direction. A variety of means are disclosed, for example a transparent tape member wound with tension helically around the optical structure, an elongate heat-shrinkable sleeve surrounding the structure, a plurality of rings provided along the structure to keep it under permanent compressive stress. Embodiments using braids are also disclosed.
Abstract: A cable-like synthetic composite body which can be used as a support element for technical cables comprises a string of endless filaments of high modulus of elasticity which extend parallel to one another and to the cable axis, with the string being impregnated with a first thermoplastic material (12) in the form of a hot melt adhesive. The string (11') which is held together in this way is then sleeved by extrusion with the second thermoplastic material (13) which is filled with staple fibers (23) of a high modulus of elasticity. A sleeve of a third thermoplastic material (14) is then applied by means of extrusion onto the sleeve layer.
