Abstract: Heat resistant brittle films can be made from impact-modified poly(meth)acrylimide, and forgery prevention labels can contain the heat resistant brittle films. The films can be advantageously prepared by extrusion and, depending on the desired purpose, can be designed to be transparent, translucent, or entirely non-transparent, e.g., white. Ideally, the brittle films and the forgery prevention labels containing the brittle films have no intended break points such as slits, perforation, etc.

Abstract: A transparent acrylic-based polymer composition has an increased resistance to alcohols, oils and fats. The polymer composition contains: (A) a copolymer of alkyl(meth)acrylates, aromatic vinyl monomer and unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride; (B) a copolymer containing aromatic vinyl monomer and a vinyl cyanide monomer; and (C) a particulate core-shell type graft copolymer containing a butadiene-based core as a rubbery phase and a copolymer containing alkyl(meth)acrylates and, optionally, aromatic vinyl monomer as a hard phase. The components A and B form a polymer matrix and the particulate core-shell type graft copolymer C is dispersed in said polymer matrix.

Abstract: A method for determining the clamping force of a force-actuated, rotationally drivable clamping device of a machine tool. An object is clamped with an actuation force F. Model-based calculation of the clamping force Fcalc to be expected is performed based on the actuation force F and the operating parameters of the machine tool in a control unit of the machine tool. Performing clocked measurement of the clamping force Freal acting upon the object in the clamping device within the time span of a measurement interval I. Wireless transming the measured value Freal to the control unit of the machine tool, and comparison of the measured value Freal with the calculated clamping force Fcalc. The measurement interval is adapted if the comparison reveals a deviation which reaches a threshold value.
Abstract: A mixture contains at least one amino-regulated polyether block amide (PEBA) and at least one poly(meth)acrylate selected from poly(meth)acrylimides, polyalkyl(meth)acrylates, and mixtures thereof. The mass ratio of PEBA to poly(meth)acrylate is 95:5 to 60:40. The polyalkyl(meth)acrylate contains 80% by weight to 99% by weight of methyl methacrylate (MMA) units and 1% by weight to 20% by weight of C1-C10-alkyl acrylate units, based on the total weight of polyalkyl(meth)acrylate. The mixture can be processed to give foamed mouldings. The mouldings can be used in footwear soles, stud material, insulation or insulating material, damping components, lightweight components, or in a sandwich structure.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel process for performing a heterogeneously catalyzed reaction for oxidative esterification of aldehydes to give carboxylic esters. Against this background, it has been possible by the present process according to the invention to perform such processes for longer periods without disruption, with constant or even increased activities and selectivities. This gives rise to the possibility of performing such processes in a very simple, economically viable and environmentally benign manner.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel process for oxidative esterification, generally for reaction of aldehydes with alcohols in the presence of oxygenous gases directly to give the corresponding ester in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst, by means of which, for example, (meth)acrolein can be converted to methyl (meth)acrylate. The new catalyst has titanium dioxide as the main component of the support material. The catalysts are especially notable for high mechanical and chemical stability and for good catalytic performance even over very long periods. The process is an improvement in the catalyst service life, activity and selectivity over prior art catalysts which lose activity and/or selectivity relatively quickly in continuous operation in media having even a small water content.
Abstract: A process for preparing methyl methacrylate by direct oxidative esterification of methacrolein has elevated yields compared to known processes. Methyl methacrylate (MMA) is used in large amounts for preparing polymers and copolymers with other polymerizable compounds. In addition, methyl methacrylate is an important synthesis unit for a variety of specialty esters based on methacrylic acid (MAA), which can be produced by transesterification with the appropriate alcohol. There is consequently a great interest in very simple, economic, and environmentally friendly processes for preparing methyl methacrylate. A superior workup of the reactor output from the oxidative esterification of methacrolein allows specific by-products to be isolated and then additionally converted to alkyl methacrylates, especially to MMA.

Abstract: A process is useful for producing optical molding materials on the basis of methyl methacrylate (MMA), wherein this MMA has been produced by an optimized method and the molding materials feature in particular a very low yellowness index. This MMA has been produced by direct oxidative esterification of methacrolein. In particular, an optimized workup of the reactor output from the oxidative esterification of methacrolein is useful for removing particularly discoloring byproducts. This process moreover has the advantage that fewer demands than described in related art are placed on plant apparatus configuration.
