Abstract: A method for characterizing the knock-resistance of a fuel using a test engine is disclosed, wherein the time versus cylinder pressure curve of the test engine during combustion of the fuel in the test engine is determined. This pressure signal is, in turn, compared with the corresponding pressure signal of at least one standard fuel of known knock-resistance.
Abstract: A method for determining the ignitability of a fuel, in particular a self-igniting fuel, based on the ignition delay of the fuel during the combustion in a test engine. According to the invention, the ignition delay is determined from the combustion curve and/or the heat curve.
