Patents Assigned to Ruag Munition
  • Patent number: 6779457
Abstract: A method and apparatus for protecting and arming fuses in a projectile to satisfy safety requirements and to initiate ignition with only minimal delay. In accordance with the method, after launch of a projectile, behind a cap having a central inlet opening a safety device of a turbine/ignition pin unit is released and the impeller thereof is subjected to ram pressure. The ram pressure displaces the turbine/ignition pin unit into a front position, to act as impact detector. In a device constructed in accordance with the invention, the turbine/ignition pin unit has a screw thread on its shank and is screwed into a threaded bushing so that the ram pressure displaces the unit, against the direction of flow into the front position. On impact, the rear end of the unit acts as a percussion needle and initiates an ignition chain.

  • Publication number: 20040056235
Abstract: Modern techniques for manufacturing paper using mechanical wood pulp has lead to a persistent over-acidification of printed manner, and threatens to permanently destroy the same. This over-acidification can be neutralized by using an alkaline active substance whose main component is a salt having a relatively low water affinity. An alkaline deposit can be deposited on the paper by also using said alkaline active substance. A device suited for deacidification using this active substance comprises a case (10) which can be closed. Printed matter which can be fanned out in a stand (1) is treated in said case. The printed matter is treated by introducing the powdered active substance via a screw conveyor (32) into an air stream circulated by a fan (19a), whereby the printed matter is leafed through in order to expose it to the active substance.

  • Patent number: 6672218
Abstract: A self-propelling projectile allowing restricted local target effects comprises a penetrator core, a charge for at least partially fragmenting the core at a target, and autonomous ignition device for the charge. The penetrator core has a stepped tip with a forward exterior dart angle and a larger following acute angle and a dart shank that tapers towards a rear end of the core. A coaxial cavity is located within at least a rear portion of the core carries an active substance is next to an explosive charge for opening the cavity at the target. The active substance can either be of lethal or non-lethal characteristics. The projectile can be configured to be usable with conventional launchers and auxiliary equipment.

  • Patent number: 6655295
Abstract: A small calibre projectile has an outer hollow cylindrical base member and a conical or ogive front region constructed to mushroom upon impact. A sleeve core is inserted into the cylindrical base member with a non-positive fit, the core extending beyond the front of the base member with a hollow space between the rear of the core and the rear of the base. Upon impact, the core is displaced axially into the space with its rear in contact with the base.

  • Patent number: 6547896
Abstract: A process for the production of a material made of a metal alloy for subsequent forming of the material in the semi-solid state, provides that the metal alloy (X) is brought to a starting temperature that is above the liquidus. An additive is added which is capable of reducing an interfacial surface energy between the solid phase and the liquid phase after the metal alloy has been mixed with the additive and transformed into the semi-solid state. The volume fraction of the additive (Z) is selected in such a way that, in the semi-solid material at a liquid phase fraction (fL) of 15% to 75%, the grain size (D) and the degree of skeletization (fSCS) during a holding time (t) of more than 15 minutes remain essentially constant in order to retain the formability of a suspension.

  • Patent number: 6443068
Abstract: Hollow charges are often used for combating moving, lightly armored targets and do not fulfill their task due to relatively small effective charges which arrive at the target. When using blasting charges for civilian purposes, large borings must often be made at inaccessible positions without substantially affecting the environment. A shape charge (8) having a lining (3) which explodes outward in the axial area thereof punches an overcalibrated opening in the target area. A large effective charge (7) or other elements can be inserted through said opening. According to the invention, the delayed ignition of a large effective charge (7) results in a massively increased effect thereof in the target. The ammunition body (1) is provided for use predominantly in combating moving, lightly armored targets, but can also be used for oil exploration and delivery.
