  • Patent number: 5613813
Abstract: The height adjustment ring assembly is provided for adjusting height of a router motor housing relative to a router body, the router being movable between upright and inverted positions. The housing includes external threads formed thereon. The height adjustment ring assembly comprises a support member secured to the router base, the support having a radially extending flange portion. An annular adjustment ring includes an internal thread for cooperation with the external threads. Means for entrapping the flange portion with respect to the adjustment ring is provided, thereby limiting relative axial movement while allowing free relative rotation of the adjustment ring with respect to the support member for adjustment of the router motor housing regardless of router position.

  • Patent number: 5607343
Abstract: A vibration stabilizer is provided for a power tool such as a sander or the like which has a pivotally oscillating driveshaft for supporting a tool head. The tool is provided with an elongate body having an internal cavity aligned along a longitudinal axis for receiving a drive motor therein. A driveshaft is pivotally supported upon the elongate body rotatable about a pivot axis. The drive motor operatively engages the driveshaft to cause the driveshaft to pivotally oscillate within a limited angular range when the drive motor is energized. Relative vibration between the tool head and the elongate body is minimized by an elastic ring which extends about the driveshaft and is interposed between the tool head and the elongate body. The elastic ring is loaded in compression axially biasing the tool head and the attached driveshaft in a direction away from the elongate body.

  • Patent number: 5595531
Abstract: A random orbit sander having a speed limiter includes a bearing upon which a platen is rotatably mounted. The speed limiter includes a braking member formed of a non-magnetic, electrically conductive material fixed relative to the platen of the sander. The spin limiter also includes at least one magnet supported by a housing of the sander and being disposed adjacent the braking member. A magnetic field formed by the at least one magnet intersects the braking member wherein relative movement between the at least one magnet and the braking member results in the generation of an eddy current force which inhibits rotation of the platen.

  • Patent number: 5533926
Abstract: A sandpaper pad and a pad support of corresponding shape is provided for use with a detail sander. The sandpaper pad and pad support each has a substantially 90.degree. forward corner formed by a pair of facet edges. A pair of outwardly inclined straight side edges extend rearwardly from the facet edges on opposite sides of the pad center line each being outwardly inclined from the center line 10.degree.-30.degree.. When the straight side edges are in use, the forward corner is inwardly offset, thereby minimizing forward corner wear.

  • Patent number: 5531538
Abstract: A housing apparatus for an electric power tool which has a nose cone, a clam shell housing, and a bearing plate. The nose cone contains a bevel portion, a bearing plate retaining portion, and at least one hole oriented generally transverse to a tool axis for reception of at least one fastener. The clam shell housing has a first and a second housing segment, each having a matching bevel portion for cooperation with the bevel portion of the nose cone. The first and the second housing segments each further have a bearing plate retaining portion and at least hole aligned with the at least hole of the nose cone for simultaneous reception of the at least one fastener. The bearing plate has at least one threaded hole oriented generally transverse to the tool axis for receiving the at least one fastener. The bearing plate is located between the retaining portion of the nose cone and the retaining portion of the clam shell housing.

  • Patent number: 5495937
Abstract: A shipping and display container, a generally C-shaped or L-shaped configuration enabling vertical orientation of an elongated motor driven tool is disclosed. The container allows access to the tool without destruction or manipulation of the shipping and display container. In addition, the tool may be utilized as a handle for carrying both the tool and container. The container has display surfaces adapted to receive point of sale display graphics while greatly increasing the viewing angle of consumers approaching the container.

  • Patent number: 5463816
Abstract: A portable planer for use by a user to cut chips or material from a workpiece is disclosed. The portable planer includes a chip deflector movably attached to a housing of the portable planer. The nozzle can be oriented with respect to the housing such that chips expelled from the portable planer are directed away from the user and downwardly toward a floor. Alternatively, the chip deflector can be reoriented with respect to the housing so that a collector bag or vacuum hose can be attached to the nozzle whereby chips are collected in an enclosed container rather than being freely blown. Ideally, the nozzle is swivelably attached to the housing to permit the selected positioning of the nozzle relative to the housing.

  • Patent number: 5437571
Abstract: Providing an oscillating tool for sanding a surface. The tool having a body defining an internal cavity which has a motor located therein. The motor has a motor shaft oriented in parallel alignment with the body. A crank is affixed to the motor which has a crank pin projecting therefrom. A lever arm is pivotably affixed to the body for rotation about a pivot axis generally perpendicular to the motor shaft. A lever arm cooperates with the crank pin to cause the lever arm to cyclically pivot back and forth in response to rotation of a motor shaft. A pad support is adapted to receive a work member. The planar pad support is affixed to the lever arm at a location spaced apart from the pivot axis and oscillates therewith. The pad support is provided with a substantially 90.degree. forward corner formed by a pair of facet edges. A pair of outwardly inclined straight side edges extend rearwardly from the facet edges on opposite sides of the pad center line.
