Patent number: 4585097Abstract: A slack adjuster for a rail vehicle brake system, comprising a brake force receiving adjuster tube (1, 1A), a spindle (4; 4A) axially movable therein, and two nuts, an adjuster nut (5; 5A) and a leader nut (6; 6A), which are in non-self-locking thread engagement with the spindle and are held resiliently in clutch engagement with a clutch ring (7; 7A) and a control sleeve (16; 16A) respectively, the latter being axially movable in the tube a distance (A) corresponding to the desired slack. In order to transform this so called stroke-sensing adjuster into the so called clearance-sensing type being independent of the elasticity part of the application stroke the adjuster nut (5; 5A) and the clutch ring (7; 7A) in coaction are arranged to submit a force to the leader nut (6; 6A) for locking the latter against rotation under deformation of a resilient element (13; 30; 34; 38; 5A) at the occurrence of a counter-force on the spindle (4; 4A) during the brake application.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1979Date of Patent: April 29, 1986Assignee: SAB Industri ABInventor: Lars M. Patent number: 4480727Abstract: An electromagnetic track brake for a railway vehicle comprises an elongate brake energizing coil for energizing a plurality of U-shaped braking shoes mounted in a row on a rigid frame. To improve transmission of braking reaction forces from the shoes to the vehicle each shoe is moved downwards individually relative to the frame against spring bias. A tie rod extends along a lower branch of the coil engaging each of the braking shoes for the transmission of braking forces from the shoes to the tie rod. A cylindrical rod rigidly coupled to the frame is operably connected to the end of the tie rod to take up the braking reaction forces transmitted to the tie rod.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1982Date of Patent: November 6, 1984Assignee: SAB Industri ABInventors: Nils K. Patent number: 4441591Abstract: A rail vehicle slack adjuster is provided with a barrel detented against rotation under normal working conditions. However, rotation of the barrel effects adjustment of the length of the adjuster. Thus, by means of a flexible clip ring splined to the barrel and detenting into a notch on the non-rotatable pull rod, manual force permits the clip ring to be distorted out of the notch for rotation of the barrel to accomplish manual adjustment when replacing brake blocks, or the like.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1981Date of Patent: April 10, 1984Assignee: SAB Industri ABInventors: Lars M. Patent number: 4417324Abstract: A magnetic to optic transducer based upon magnetic bubble technology is provided. A magnetic sheet with a thin magnetic film guide pattern creating a bubble path thereon responds to external magnetic fields to position magnetic bubbles along the path. A varying magnetic field in the plane of the sheet displaces bubbles which are optically sensed by a fiber light conductor contacting both sides of the magnetic sheet at a location in the bubble path. A polarized light source transmits light through the fiber and a polarizing filter on one side of the magnetic sheet to a light detector on the other side of the sheet. The presence or absence of the magnetic bubble at the fiber position thereby affects the polarization of the light transmitted through the sheet and provides a detectable signal for reading the nature of the external magnetic field. The transducer may comprise permanent magnetic field generating means which do not require continuous energization.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1981Date of Patent: November 22, 1983Assignee: SAB Industri ABInventor: Bo B. Wikstrom
