  • Patent number: 4585097
Abstract: A slack adjuster for a rail vehicle brake system, comprising a brake force receiving adjuster tube (1, 1A), a spindle (4; 4A) axially movable therein, and two nuts, an adjuster nut (5; 5A) and a leader nut (6; 6A), which are in non-self-locking thread engagement with the spindle and are held resiliently in clutch engagement with a clutch ring (7; 7A) and a control sleeve (16; 16A) respectively, the latter being axially movable in the tube a distance (A) corresponding to the desired slack. In order to transform this so called stroke-sensing adjuster into the so called clearance-sensing type being independent of the elasticity part of the application stroke the adjuster nut (5; 5A) and the clutch ring (7; 7A) in coaction are arranged to submit a force to the leader nut (6; 6A) for locking the latter against rotation under deformation of a resilient element (13; 30; 34; 38; 5A) at the occurrence of a counter-force on the spindle (4; 4A) during the brake application.

  • Patent number: 4480727
Abstract: An electromagnetic track brake for a railway vehicle comprises an elongate brake energizing coil for energizing a plurality of U-shaped braking shoes mounted in a row on a rigid frame. To improve transmission of braking reaction forces from the shoes to the vehicle each shoe is moved downwards individually relative to the frame against spring bias. A tie rod extends along a lower branch of the coil engaging each of the braking shoes for the transmission of braking forces from the shoes to the tie rod. A cylindrical rod rigidly coupled to the frame is operably connected to the end of the tie rod to take up the braking reaction forces transmitted to the tie rod.

  • Patent number: 4473136
Abstract: A rail vehicle disc brake arrangement includes a yoke (1) with a brake cylinder (11) and a slack adjuster (16). In order to obtain advantages as regards design, function and space requirements the yoke (1) comprises two telescoping yoke parts: a fixed part (4) and a movable part (5). The slack adjuster (16) is arranged to act between these two parts. The brake cylinder (11) on the movable yoke part is connected to a yoke lever (6), which is pivotally attached to the movable part, has a pad holder (8) with a brake pad (9), and controls the slack adjuster (16).

  • Patent number: 4454932
Abstract: Suspension for a rail vehicle disc brake unit (1) comprises a suspension console (11) to be attached to a vehicle bogie or underframe, a cradle (13) movably attached to the console, and suspension links (17, 18) pivotally connecting the brake pad holders (6) to the cradle. A further supporting connection (19-21) is provided between the console and the brake unit. In order to obtain the desired mobility for the brake disc during braking there is between the console (11) and the cradle (13) a joint (14), which is stiff in the brake force transmission direction but comparatively resilient in other directions. The supporting connection (19-21) has basically the same properties.

  • Patent number: 4441591
Abstract: A rail vehicle slack adjuster is provided with a barrel detented against rotation under normal working conditions. However, rotation of the barrel effects adjustment of the length of the adjuster. Thus, by means of a flexible clip ring splined to the barrel and detenting into a notch on the non-rotatable pull rod, manual force permits the clip ring to be distorted out of the notch for rotation of the barrel to accomplish manual adjustment when replacing brake blocks, or the like.

  • Patent number: 4417324
Abstract: A magnetic to optic transducer based upon magnetic bubble technology is provided. A magnetic sheet with a thin magnetic film guide pattern creating a bubble path thereon responds to external magnetic fields to position magnetic bubbles along the path. A varying magnetic field in the plane of the sheet displaces bubbles which are optically sensed by a fiber light conductor contacting both sides of the magnetic sheet at a location in the bubble path. A polarized light source transmits light through the fiber and a polarizing filter on one side of the magnetic sheet to a light detector on the other side of the sheet. The presence or absence of the magnetic bubble at the fiber position thereby affects the polarization of the light transmitted through the sheet and provides a detectable signal for reading the nature of the external magnetic field. The transducer may comprise permanent magnetic field generating means which do not require continuous energization.

  • Patent number: 4230040
Abstract: A releasing device for disconnecting a buoyant body from an anchor a predetermined period after having been sunk into water. In order to accomplish a reliable device, which may be stored for very long periods of time, a piston is movable in a cylinder under the influence of a spring and a water pressure differential. The piston controls the disconnection of the buoyant body and the anchor, as the cylinder is connected to one part and the piston will release an element connected to the other part in a disconnecting position under the influence of the spring.
