Patent number: 4006282Abstract: Seal in the cover of a storage cell for a malleable metal terminal post such as lead or indium terminal post provided with a blind hole opening towards the outside and a shoulder inside the storage cell. A flexible gasket is situated between the cover and the shoulder. An expandable rivet or the like is inserted in the blind hole and has a head that bears on the external face of the cover. Extraction of the rivet expands and shortens the terminal post and compresses the flexible gasket into sealing relationship between the shoulder and the cover without causing the expanded portion of the terminal post to come into contact with the cover thus avoiding danger of cracking the latter. Application is to small sealed lead storage cells.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1975Date of Patent: February 1, 1977Assignees: Saft-Societe des Accumulateurs Fixes et de Traction, Compagnie Europeenne d'AccumulateursInventor: Sipic Antoine

Patent number: 3992228Abstract: Alkaline electrolyte electric primary cell comprising a visual indicator of its state of charge, the said primary cell having a negative electrode basically containing zinc powder in contact with its outside casing. The said charge indicator is constituted by a perforated copper or copper alloy sheet which is visible from the outside of the primary cell and is in contact with the negative mass. On assembly, the copper sheet becomes coated with a film of zinc and appears to have a grey color. During cell discharge the zinc of this film oxidizes and the original coloration of the sheet comes visible through a transparency provided in at least a portion of the casing. The sheet may be located at any selected depth in the thickness of the negative electrode and the time of restoration of original coloration is a function of the location depth and thus indicative of the residual state of charge.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1975Date of Patent: November 16, 1976Assignees: Saft-Societe des Accumulateurs Fixes et de Traction, Compagnie Industrielle des Piles Electriques "Cipel"Inventor: Pierre Depoix

Patent number: 3973611Abstract: The invention concerns a nut system comprising a nut connected with a nut lock constituted by a washer having the same inside diameter as the nut. In such a system, the nut and the washer are tied together while remaining rotatable relative to each other and capable of assuming a first relative position in which they are coaxial and a second relative position in which they are eccentric, thus becoming tightened in the eccentric position.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1975Date of Patent: August 10, 1976Assignee: Saft-Societe des Accumulateurs Fixes et de TractionInventor: Christian Profit

Patent number: 3971673Abstract: The invention concerns an electric cell having a fluid-tight box comprising a metallic tank having a bottom and a lateral wall and at least one current output insulated from the tank. That cell is characterized more particularly in that the housing comprises, moreover, a metallic sleeve surrounding the lateral wall of the tank, stopped up in a fluid-tight manner at its first end by the tank and at its second end by a glass seal through which the current output crosses in a fluid-tight manner. The glass seal and metallic sleeve have substantially equal coefficients of expansion. The invention applies to electrochemical cells having small dimensions and more particularly to lithium cells.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1975Date of Patent: July 27, 1976Assignee: Saft-Societe des Accumulateurs Fixes et de TractionInventor: Daniel Coueille

Patent number: 3970475Abstract: Primary cell, in which the positive active material is silver chromate and in which the electrolyte may be constituted by a lithium perchlorate solution in propylene carbonate. According to the invention silver powder is added to the silver chromate in a proportion comprised between 5% and 30% by weight. A primary cell thus obtained may be used in an environment having a high temperature, such as an electrical device whose components heat up without any possibility of cooling.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1974Date of Patent: July 20, 1976Assignee: Saft-Societe des Accumulateurs Fixes et de TractionInventors: Gerard Gerbier, Jean-Paul Rivault
