  • Patent number: 11204264
Abstract: An inductive sensor device has a scale with scale elements that provide a field pattern in at least one line extending in a measuring direction. The inductive sensor device contains at least one receive circuit with at least one receive coil. The receive coil and the scale are moveable relative to each other in the measuring direction. The receive coil extends from a first end to a second end in the measuring direction. It has a first end section directly adjacent to the first end and a second end section directly adjacent to the second end, and middle section. Each of the sections contains at least one loop of the receive coil. In the end sections the loop area decreases from loop to loop from the loop next to the middle section toward the respective end. Such a loop design compensates for misalignments between the receive coil and the scale.

  • Patent number: 10928223
Abstract: An inductive sensor device (23) having a scale unit (24) and a sensor unit (25) that can be moved relative to each other in a measuring direction (M) is described. The scale unit contains scale elements (26) that are adapted to create a field pattern (P(x)) in measuring direction (M) that is detected by means of a receive circuit (35) of the sensor unit (25). The receive circuit (35) contains at least a first receive coil set (36) and a second receive coil set (37) that are offset in measuring direction (M). In so doing a first spatial phase and a second spatial phase receive signal is provided by these receive coil sets (36, 37) respectively. These spatial phases can be used for absolute position determination.

  • Publication number: 20160287333
Abstract: A handheld device has an array of light sources, for example light emitting diodes. The array is divided into different groups and selection circuitry selects a group of energy sources to be driven at any given time. Control circuitry controls the selection so that the different groups of light sources are driven at different times.

  • Patent number: 8710827
Abstract: A position encoder is described that generates a signal whose phase varies with a position to be determined. A phase detector determines a first phase measurement of the sensor signal during a first mode and a second phase measurement of said sensor signal during a second mode. The phase detector then differences the first and second phase measurements to obtain a phase difference measurement, which it uses to determine an indication of the position to be sensed. A controller controls a signal generator in order to set a start phase of signals generated in at least one of the first and second modes so that the timings at which said sensor signal crosses a reference level are substantially the same.

  • Publication number: 20130151162
Abstract: Drug delivery devices are described that include sensors and processing circuitry that can detect operating events, such as flow rates and drug delivery, in various types of inhalers, such as dry powder inhalers, metered dose inhalers, nasal inhalers and nebulisers. The information determined by the processing circuitry can be used to provide feedback to the user or can be stored or transmitted for subsequent analysis. This information can be used to improve clinical trials by providing information about the way in which the inhalers under test are being used.

  • Patent number: 8129985
Abstract: An inductive position encoder is described having first and second members which are relatively moveable over a measurement path, a magnetic device mounted on the first member; a plurality of first windings mounted on the second member; and a second winding. The magnetic device is operable to interact with the windings such that upon the energization of either the second winding or the first windings, there is generated a plurality of sensor signals each being associated with a respective one of said first windings and varying with the relative position between said magnetic device and the associated first winding and hence with the relative position between said first and second members. Additionally, the plurality of first windings are arranged along said measurement path so that the sensor signals vary substantially in accordance with a predetermined Gray code.

  • Patent number: 7868609
Abstract: A position encoder is provided for indicating the relative position between first and second relatively move members. One of the members carries a magnetic field generator which generates a magnetic field whose magnitude and direction vary with position. In a preferred embodiment, the other member carries an excitation winding, one or more sensor windings and a film of magnetizable material. The arrangement is such that the positionally varying magnetic field interacts with the film to change the mutual coupling between the excitation winding and the or each sensor winding. Excitation and processing circuitry is provided for energising the excitation winding and for processing the sensor signals to determine a value indicative of the relative position between the first and second relatively movable members.

  • Patent number: 7228228
Abstract: The present invention provides a tracking system in which a mobile tag having an unknown position, which tag is to be tracked in space over time, transmits a signal comprising a pair of tones at different frequencies. The transmitted signal is received at each of three receivers, each having a known location, where the phase of each of the tones within the signal is measured. The measured phases are passed to a processing unit which determines the position of the tag at the time of transmission of the signal on the basis of the difference between the measured phases of the two tones. The tracking system operates over a defined finite range to track the position of the mobile tag uniquely in space.
