Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for a user to monitor and/or override a forwarded call. Typically, the forwarded call was initially an incoming call from a caller to the user and thereafter forwarded to a remote service system, such as a remote messaging system. The system and method determine a redirecting number from which the incoming call was forwarded. The system and method then initiates a second call to the user and a voice path is established connecting the forwarded call to the second call. Thereafter, the user is notified, for example, with a distinct ring at the user's telephone, of the option that the user may monitor and override the forwarded call. The system and method can also execute procedures to actuate the options elected by the user.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing aural review of a privacy policy are disclosed. Generally, a first version of a privacy policy is retrieved. A natural language version of the privacy policy is then retrieved based on at least one user preference and an audio representation of the natural language version of the privacy policy is played through an audio system of a device to a user.

Abstract: A presence device operable in a first mode and a second mode is associated with a communication device. In the first mode, a user using the presence device is biometrically authenticated and a presence confirmation input is received from the communication device. In the second mode, a user-entered log-in input is received from the communication device. A central presence database is updated to indicate that the communication device is active for the user. A received message which is to be routed to the user is sent to the active device indicated by the central presence database.

Abstract: A user agent in a Web access device transmits an HTTP request for Web content to an origin server. The request contains a set of capabilities of the Web access device. A content authoring mechanism and adaptation determination service on the origin server process the request to determine what transformation is required to make the requested content fit the capabilities of the Web access device. The adaptation determination service invokes a niche transformation service that performs, in response to the content and the capabilities, the necessary transformation. The transformed Web content is transmitted to the user agent.

Abstract: A computer-based monitoring system provides interactive topology information about a synchronized optical network (SONET). The monitoring system utilizes a trunks integrated record keeping system (TIRKS) connected to the SONET for collecting status data in a raw format. A computer system retrieves the raw format status data from TIRKS and provides the data in a simple graphical user interface to a user. The interface includes several menus from which the user may specify specific components of the SONET, and a graphical output for providing a graphical representation of the SONET. The graphical output illustrates each node and link and interactively provides more detailed information about any user selected link or node.

Abstract: A system and method for numbering plan area (NPA) split processing is disclosed. In one implementation, a query is received during a permissive dialing period. The query comprises a destination location that is associated with a first NPA. It is determined whether a first call processing record identifies a service that is NPA sensitive. The first call processing record is associated with a destination location that is undergoing a NPA split. The first call processing record is identified by the destination location and the destination location is associated with a first NPA. A second call processing record is then used for processing in place of the first call processing record when the first call processing record identifies a service that is NPA sensitive. The second call processing record is associated with the destination location that is undergoing an NPA split. The second call processing record is identified by the destination location and the destination location is associated with a second NPA.

Abstract: Systems and methods for performing joint demodulation using a Viterbi equalizer having an adaptive total number of states are disclosed. Generally, a method includes joint demodulating a desired signal and none or more interfering signals with a Viterbi equalizer having an adaptive total number of states based on channel impulse response (CIR) coefficients associated with a desired signal ant the one or more interfering signals.

Abstract: A processor readable medium embodying executable instructions to correct call detail records includes instructions to scan a received file including a plurality of call detail records to detect a file rejection condition, instructions to edit the received file to produce a modified file in response to detecting the file rejection condition, and instructions to forward the modified file to a downstream transaction record processing system.

Abstract: Systems and methods for providing controlled impairments to an optical transport system are disclosed. In one implementation, an optical stream is received. A clock signal and a data signal are identified based on the received optical signal. A selection indicating at least a particular bit position of the optical stream to be modified is received from a user and it is determined whether the particular bit position of the optical stream is located in an active video portion, a horizontally ancillary data portion, a vertically ancillary data portion, a start-video timing portion, or an end active video portion of the optical stream. The particular bit position in the determined portion of the optical stream is identified based on at least the clock signal and the data signal, and the particular bit position of the optical stream is modified.

Abstract: A Call Alerting and Control System is provided in a communication environment to allow an Internet user (“user”) approximately real-time monitoring of information about an incoming call from a calling party while maintaining a connection with the Internet. The system could also allow the user to provide an answering machine-type message to the calling party and the user to listen to the calling party's response to the message while still connected to the Internet. The system can further allow the user to reroute, answer or otherwise treat the incoming call while, at the user's discretion, either maintaining or disconnecting a connection to the Internet.

A Web service is polled to detect for a presence of the first authorized party. After determining that the presence of the first authorized party remains undetected over an allocated time interval, the Web service is polled to detect for a presence of the second authorized party. In response to detecting the presence of the second authorized party, the message is routed to an active communication device associated with the second authorized party.

Abstract: A method and system for automating customer slamming and cramming complaints includes an automated reporting system having one or more receiving devices and a complaint module. Customers who want to report a slam or cram access the automated reporting system and report the complaint without having to speak with a customer service representative. The complaint module obtains the customer telephone number and retrieves customer account information using the customer telephone number. Using the customer account information, the complaint module extrapolates a type of complaint for the customer complaint and prompts the customer for information regarding the customer complaint and the type of the complaint. The customer provides customer responses to the prompts and the complaint module provides an indication to the customer regarding each customer response.
